WARSAW Polish Prime Minister Beata Szydlo suffered bruising and was taken to hospital for routine checks after a private car crashed into her limousine on Friday, a government spokesman said.While she appeared to have suffered no serious harm, the incident raised security concerns given that Defence Minister Antoni Macierewicz and President Andrzej Duda have also been involved in recent car accidents, though without injury.“The Government Protection Bureau is expected to predict such situations,” said Roman Polko, former head of Polish special forces. “This was a very serious accident, I’m very much concerned that it is being played down.“Julia Pitera of opposition party Civic Platform told broadcaster TVP Info: “It’s frightening to live in a country where, within 11 months, the president, prime minister and defence minister are involved in car accidents.” The government spokesman said: “Nothing serious happened to the prime minister, for sure. The circumstances of the accident are the subject of a police investigation.“A government source said nothing pointed to any kind of attack. Szydlo, 53, was travelling in a convoy of government vehicles at the time of the incident, which took place in the centre of her birthtown of Oswiecim in southern Poland.According to public broadcaster TVP Info, a small private Fiat was travelling in the same direction as her limousine and crashed into it while trying to turn left. Private radio RMF said two of Szydlo’s security officers were injured. The government spokesman declined to comment on the condition of her driver.
