Zimbabwe vs India 2nd T20I as it happened: Chibhabha, Cremer star as Zimbabwe beat India by 10 runs

Sikandar Raza: It was my first game as captain for Zimbabwe, great honour and the team out there made me feel welcome and the fans made their support felt. We knew we were 10-15 runs short. Basic errors cost us, but like we said our poor run had to come to the end and it came today. I just said if we save one run every over, at the end we would have saved 20 runs. Try to contribute like that and at the end we would come out well. Everything has to come to an end, and now we hope we can win more games for Zimbabwe and give the fans something to cheer about.

Rahane: Credits to Zimbabwe, they fantastic with the ball and fielded well as well. 145 was achievable, our bowlers did very well, especially in the last five overs. We didnt bat well, we accept that. Lost wickets continuiously. Thats why pressure was built. Played pretty well, in the one-dayers and T20. Disappointed with losing the game today, but overall happy with the boys.

Chibhabha: I have put in a lot of work and its come off and I am happy to contribute to a win. The track was a bit slow with a bit of bounce and you had to work hard for your runs. To be fair, I was happy with the catch more than I was with the bat. We needed to get Binny out, he’s been brilliant all series. So happy to take the blinder

Chamu Chibhabha is named the Man of the Match.

This is Zimbabwe’s 1st T20I win over India!

That’s it! Zimbabwe level the series as they beat India by 10 runs in 2nd T20I

Bhuvneshwar takes three runs, the third one was a risky one and Coventry fails to collect the ball and misses a run out. They run a bye off the next ball as Coventry fumbles. They again try to run for another bye but Coventry does well to pass on the ball to the bowler who knocks down the stumps to run out Bhuvneshwar. Mpofu holds his nerves to concede just 4 runs off the next three balls to win it for Zimbabwe.

After 19 overs, India 127/7 (Bhuvneshwar 6, Mohit 0)

Brilliant over from Muzarabani, just 6 runs and a wicket off it. India need 19 from 6.

OUT! Akshar departs now. AR Patel c Williams b Muzarabani 13 (15b 1×4 0x6)

Low full toss outside off, Akshar heaves it straight to deep mid-wicket fielder. India need 22 off 8 now.

Mohit Sharma is the last man in.

After 18 overs, India 121/7 (Akshar 13, Bhuvneshwar 0)

A successful over for Zimbabwe. But Akshar got a boundary to keep India in hunt. 7 runs and the wicket of Samson off it. India need 25 from 12.

OUT! Mpofu gets the big one! SV Samson c Waller b Mpofu 19 (24b 1×4 0x6)

It’s full outside off, Samson stays in his crease and looks to go downtown but he doesn’t connect it well and helps it straight into the hands of Waller.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar strides out to the middle.

Mpofu back on…

After 17 overs, India 114/6 (Samson 19, Akshar 6)

A very good over from Raza and he might have had a wicket too in that over but for the drop from Cremer. After four runs from first five balls, Akshar drills one uppishly to extra cover but Cremer puts down a tough chance. 6 runs off the over. 32 needed off 18 now.

Raza back on.

After 16 overs, India 109/6 (Samson 18, Akshar 2)

Cremer finishes a brilliant spell. 4-0-18-3. Just three runs and the wicket of Binny in that over. 37 needed off 24 now.

OUT! Brilliant catch from Chibhabha. Binny departs! STR Binny c Chibhabha b Cremer 24 (23b 2×4 0x6)

Cremer strikes again. It’s tossed up outside off, Binny charges down and looks to go downtown but doesn’t connect it well, Chibhabha charges in from long on, dives and pouches it inches above the ground.

Akshar Patel is the new batsman.

After 15 overs, India 105/5 (Binny 24, Samson 16)

A good first over from Raza, just four singles off it. The pair scampered through a risky single off the last ball but the fielder at short third man missed his direct hit. Would have been close had that hit. 41 needed off 30 now.

Sikandar Raza brings himself into the attack..

After 14 overs, India 101/5 (Binny 22, Samson 14)

Samson starts off the over in lucky fashion. He looks to turn one to the leg side but gets a leading edge wide of short third man for a streaky boundary. He then steers one off the middle to the same region for a single. Some sensible batting sees them get four more singles off the next four balls. 9 runs off the over. The 100 is up too. 45 needed off 36 balls now.

Muzarabani back on…

After 13 overs, India 92/5 (Binny 20, Samson 7)

A tight over from Utseya, just two singles and a wide. The batsmen struggled to fine gaps in that over.

Utseya back into the attack now.

After 12 overs, India 89/5 (Binny 19, Samson 6)

Binny releases some pressure. Good cricket from both the batsmen. Binny charges down and hammers the first one over extra cover for a boundary and then cuts one past backward point for another one. Three more singles make it 11 runs from the over.

After 11 overs, India 78/5 (Binny 9, Samson 5)

Good sensible stuff from Samson and Binny. Five singles and a couple off it. Binny looked a bit impatient in that over. But the good thing is that the scoreboard was kept ticking.

After 10 overs, India 71/5 (Binny 6, Samson 1)

A tight over from Williams.  Just two runs off it. This is the time for Zimbabwe to apply a stranglehold on India.

After 9 overs, India 69/5 (Binny 5, Samson 0)

A successful over for Zimbabwe. The batsmen were playing sensibly until they decided to take the risky second off the last ball which cost the wicket of Jadhav. 6 runs and a wicket off the over.

OUT! Brilliant piece of fielding from Taurai Muzarabani. KM Jadhav run out 5 (6b 0x4 0x6)

Binny clips it through mid-wicket and scampers through for a single. Jadhav doesn’t start off well and then they look fro a second, Muzarabani runs in from deep mid-wicket and scores a direct hit at the non-striker’s end. Jadhavis caught short as the replays show. Superb fielding. Careless running.

Sanju Samson – the debutant strides out to the middle.

Cremer continues….

After 8 overs, India 63/4 (Jadhav 3, Binny 1)

A very good over for Zimbabwe. Williams concedes just 5 runs and gets the important wicket of Uthappa too.

OUT! Williams gets the big one! RV Uthappa c & b Williams 42 (25b 9×4 0x6)

Full on off, Uthappa comes forward and drives it firmly straight back, Williams shows good reflexes and pouches a brilliant catch. A big, big wicket for Zimbabwe at crucial juncture.

Stuart Binny is the new batsman.

Williams comtinues…

After 7 overs, India 58/3 (Uthappa 40, Jadhav 1)

A brilliant first over from Cremer. Just one run and two wickets off it.

OUT! Cremer gets another one in the over. MK Pandey lbw b Cremer 0 (3b 0x4 0x6)

It’s a length delivery on the leg stump, zipping through. Manish Pandey goes back and looks to flick but is beaten by the pace. He misses and gets hit on the pads. The umpire lifts the finger on the appeal. But it looked like it might have missed leg.

Kedar Jadhav is the new batsman.

OUT! Cremer strikes first ball! M Vijay b Cremer 13 (11b 0x4 1×6)

It’s a touch short on middle and off, it spins away a tad. Vijay rocks back for a pull but misses it completely. The ball knocks back the off stump. A wicket at a crucial juncture for Zimbabwe.

Manish Pandey is the new batsman.

After 6 overs, India 57/1 (Vijay 13, Uthappa 40)

This is a good start for India despite the early lossof Rahane. Both the batsmen looking to attack now, the 50-run stand also comes up. Vijay gets down and slog sweeps it over deep square leg for a six and then Uthappa reverse sweeps it wide of backward point fielder for a boundary. 13 runs off the over.

Sean Williams into the attack now.

After 5 overs, India 35/1 (Vijay 5, Uthappa 35)

Not a good start from Chibhabha. He brings one back sharply off the first ball, Vijay misses it and there is an appeal for an LBW but the umpire says no. Looked like sliding down the leg side. Uthappa then banishes a short ball through mid-wicket for a boundary before flicking one over square leg for consecutive fours. 9 runs off the over.

Chamu Chibhabha into the attack now.

After 4 overs, India 35/1 (Vijay 4, Uthappa 27)

Good contest in that over. Mpofu beats Uthappa with an inswinger that keeps a bit low but then drops it short next ball, Uthappa pulls it off the front foot over mid-wicket for a boundary. He then trickles one to fine leg for the second boundary off the over. He then pulls another one through mid-wicket for the third boundary off the over. 12 runs off the over. Uthappa has racedon to 27 off 18 with six fours.

Chris Mpoful into the attack now.

After 3 overs, India 23/1 (Vijay 4, Uthappa 15)

Another good over for India. Uthappa has started off aggressively. Vijay clips one to fine leg for three and then Uthappa whips it over mid-wicket for a boundary. 10 runs off the over.

Utseya continues…

After 2 overs, India 13/1 (Vijay 0, Uthappa 9)

After four good deliveries where Uthappa looked to hit across the line and missed, he finally plays one straight and lofts it wide of mid off for a boundary. Uthappa then finally connects his flick and whips it uppishly over mid-wicket for a boundary to make it 8 runs from the over.

Taurai Muzarabani will bowl from the other end.

After 1 over, India 5/1 (Vijay 0, Uthappa 1)

A successful first over from Utseya. He strayed in line off the second ball and was hit for a four through fine leg by Rahane but a mix up saw Rahane walk back to the hut. Just one more run off the over. 5 runs and a wicket off it.

OUT! Rahane departs early! AM Rahane run out 4 (3b 1×4 0x6)

A big mix-up and looks like Vijay might be at fault. Rahane clips it to short fine leg and he sets off, Vijay too sets off but then stops and sends Rahane back. The fielder takes his time and whips in a throw to the keeper who clips the bails off. Rahane didn’t bother going back into the crease. He looks a bit angry as he walks off.

Robin Uthappa is the new batsman.

Right! Back for the chase – Ajinkya Rahane and Murali Vijay have strode out to the middle. Prosper Utseya will start off proceedings for Zimbabwe.

India restrict Zimbabwe to 145/7

Just four runs and a wicket in the last over from Mohit. He mixed it up really well and the slower deliveries – for once – worked for him. Chibhabha was the lone fighter for Zimbabwe with 67 from 51 balls. His 3rd fifty of the tour. It looks a good batting wicket and it would take a brilliant bowling effort from Zimbabwe to win this one.

OUT! The slower one finally worls for Mohit! P Utseya c Patel b Sharma 1 (2b 0x4 0x6)

Slow and short outside off, Utseya waits and waits and looks to pull but gets a top edge to deep mid-wicket where Akshar takes a good running catch.

Graeme Cremer is the new batsman.

After 19 overs, Zimbabwe 141/6 (Waller 2, Utseya 1)

A decent over from Bhuvneshwar. 9 runs and two wickets off it. Uthappa – with some poor keeping – let the ball through for five wides, else, it would have been an excellent over.

OUT! Brilliant from Bhuvneshwar! CR Ervine b Kumar 7 (9b 1×4 0x6)

Another yorker, this time on off, Ervine looks to drive but gets an inside edge onto the stumps.

Prosper Utseya is the new batsman.

OUT! Bhuvneshwar removes the set Chibhabha!

It’s a yorker on middle and leg, Chibhabha shuffles and looks to flick but misses, the ball hits his pads and crashes onto the stumps. A very good innings comes to an end.

Malcolm Waller is the new batsman.

After 18 overs, Zimbabwe 132/4 (Chibhabha 65, Ervine 7)

A good over for Zimbabwe. Mohit’s skower ones ain’t working. Chibhabha heaves the first slower one over mid-wicket for a boundary. Ervine then lofts one over mid off for the second boundary of the over. Three more singles make it 11 from the over.

Mohit Sharma back on.

After 17 overs, Zimbabwe 121/4 (Chibhabha 61, Ervine 2)

Good over from Bhuvneshwar. Just 5 runs off it. After two runs off the first two balls, Chibhabha goes for a loft but ends up slicing it over backward point for a couple. He again looks to chase a wide one but gets an outside edge to third man for just a single.

Bhuvneshwar back on……

After 16 overs, Zimbabwe 116/4 (Chibhabha 58, Ervine 1)

A very good over from Binny. He got the wicket of Coventry and could have had Chibhabha but his leading edge just eluded the extra cover fielder. Just four runs and a wicket off the over.

OUT! Binny strikes! CK Coventry lbw b Binny 4 (10b 0x4 0x6)

Good length delivery outside off, nips back in sharply. Coventry stays in his crease and looks to steer but misses and gets his right in front. The umpire lifts his finger straightaway.

Craig Ervine is the new batsman.

Binny back into the attack.

After 15 overs, Zimbabwe 112/3 (Chibhabha 55, Coventry 4)

Sandeep ends his struggles as he bowls out his four overs. His figures read – 4-0-39-1. After three runs off the first four balls, Chibhabha gives himself room and slices one wide of backward point for a boundary. He then flicks a low full toss through mid-wicket for a single to make it 8 runs off the over.

FIFTY for Chibhabha, off just 38 balls. His 4th T20I 50. He carries on his good form. A crucial inns this.

After 14 overs, Zimbabwe 104/3 (Chibhabha 49, Coventry 2)

Chibhabha saves the over for Zimbabwe. It was turning out to be a good over from Akshar with just two runs off five balls but then Chibhabha smashes it through extra cover for a boundary to make it six runs off the over.  The 100 comes up for Zimbabwe. They would look to up the ante now with wickets in hand.

After 13 overs, Zimbabwe 98/3 (Chibhabha 44, Coventry 1)

Again, the Indian bowlers are too short and too wide. They are getting punished. Chibhabha smashes a short delivery through covers for a boundary and then cuts a short and wide delivery through point for another one. He then guides one through point for a couple. Mohit hits back off the last ball to beat Chibhabha’s outside edge. A good over for Zimbabwe, 9 runs off it.

Mohit Sharma into the attack now.

After 12 overs, Zimbabwe 89/3 (Chibhabha 35, Coventry 1)

A successful over for India. Good stuff from Akshar. 4 runs and a wicket off it.

OUT! Akshar strikes! S Williams c & b Patel 17 (18b 1×4 0x6)

Williams charges down the track, Akshar sees him coming and shortens his length a bit. Williams is cramped for room and ends up chipping it back to Akshar who takes a good low catch.

Charles Coventry is the new batsman.

After 11 overs, Zimbabwe 85/2 (Chibhabha 32, Williams 17)

After four singles off the first four balls, Williams shuffles and heaves it over deep backward square leg for a boundary. He then bunts the last one to long on for a single to make it 9 runs off the over. Sandeep hasn’t found his lines right!

Sandeep Sharma back on.

After 10 overs, Zimbabwe 76/2 (Chibhabha 30, Williams 10)

The Indian bowlers have been too short today. Akshar drops one short and Chibhabha pulls it muscularly over mid-wicket for a boundary. He then whips one through the same region for a couple. Three singles off the first three balls made it 9 runs from the over.

Akshar Patel continues…

After 9 overs, Zimbabwe 67/2 (Chibhabha 23, Williams 8)

A good over from Vijay, he beats Chibhabha with a lovely flighted off spinner off the first ball. It flies inches past the leg stump. Williams then uses his feet and chips one straight back over the bowlers head for a couple. Just four runs off the over.

Vijay continues…

After 8 overs, Zimbabwe 63/2 (Chibhabha 23, Williams 5)

A good over for Zimbabwe. Williams gets down for a reverse sweep first ball but misses, Uthappa, who is keeping, too misses and it runs away to the third man fence for four byes. Three more singles off the next four balls and then Williams again goes for a reverse sweep , he seems to miss it, Uthappa fumbles but then gathers. He starts celebrating, Akshar joins in late but the umprie is unmoved. Uthappa can’t believe it. 7 runs off the over.

Last match hero – Akshar Patel into the attack now.

After 7 overs, Zimbabwe 55/2 (Chibhabha 21, Williams 3)

Zimbabwe looking to steady the ship now. 6 singles off the over. Williams used his feet pretty well in that over. But they need to attack a part-timer, 6 runs is not good enough off Vijay!

Murali Vijay into the attack now.

After 6 overs, Zimbabwe 49/2 (Chibhabha 18, Williams 0)

A very good over from Mohit. Just four runs and a wicket off it.

OUT! A poor delivery fetches Mohit a wicket! Sikandar Raza c Samson b Sharma 8 (7b 1×4 0x6)

Short and wide outside off, Raza stays rooted to his crease and looks to slash but gets the bottom of the bat, Samson at third man runs to his left and takes a very well judged catch.

Sean Williams is the new batsman.

Mohit Sharma into the attack now..

After 5 overs, Zimbabwe 45/1 (Chibhabha 14, Raza 8)

A good over for Zimbabwe. They are showing intent. Raza pulls one over mid-wicket for a boundary and then Chibhabha lofts one over mid off for the second boundary of the over. Two more singles make it 10 runs off the over. Not a good start for Binny, he was a bit short in that over.

Stuart Binny into the attack now.

After 4 overs, Zimbabwe 35/1 (Chibhabha 9, Raza 3)

A mixed over for Sandeep. He bowls a front foot no ball and the Free-hit which is clobbered for a six, he then hits back to remove Masakadza. Chibhabha then pulls a short one behind square leg for a boundary but Sandeep hits back to beat him with a beautiful outswinger. 14 runs and a wicket off the over.

OUT! Sandeep gets his maiden T20I wicket! H Masakadza c Uthappa b Sandeep Sharma 19 (17b 1×4 1×6)

The previous ball was a free-hit and Masakadza hammered it over mid-wicket for a six. The next ball, Masakadza looks to charge, Sandeep cleverly drifts it a touch wide and it tails back in. Masakadza looks to adjust and guide but ends up edging it to the keeper.

Sikandar Raza is the new batsman.

After 3 overs, Zimbabwe 21/0 (Masakadza 13, Chibhabha 5)

A good comeback from Bhuvneshwar in that over. He bowled the first one short, Masakadza hammered a pull through mid-wicket for a boundary. Bhuvneshwar still persisted with the short length but hurried up the batsman a little bit. Just one more run after the boundary. 5 runs off the over.

Bhuvneshwar continues….

After 2 overs, Zimbabwe 16/0 (Masakadza 8, Chibhabha 5)

Masakadza gets a lifeline in that over. After four decent deliveries, Masakadza charges down the track and smashes a pull to short mid-wicket, Vijay doesn’t manage to hold on to a tough catch. Sandeep got some swing but wasn’t good enough with his lines. Chibhabha then whips the last one through mid-wicket for a boundary. 9 runs off the over which included a couple of wides.

Sandeep Sharma will bowl from the other end.

After 1 over, Zimbabwe 7/0 (Masakadza 7, Chibhabha 0)

Masakadza has straightaway come out with an attackign intent. He at first guides one to third man off the outside edge for a couple, then gets down and scoops one to long leg for a couple, some fantastic fielding from Sandeep saves a couple of runs. Masakadza then mistimes his loft over mid off for three. Bhuvneshwar got some swing in that over, a good start nevertheless.

Right then! The Zimbabwe openers – Hamilton Masakadza and Chamu Chibhabha have made their way out to the middle. Bhuvneshwar Kumar will start off proceedings for India.

Though Manish Pandey could not do much in the first T20, he would draw inspiration from his fine knock in the third ODI, and so will Kedar Jadhav. Jadhav’s maiden century in the third ODI made him an overnight star and he would be looking to end his tour with another sparkling innings.

10:05 AM (IST)

The Indians have hardly any concerns as every member of the side has chipped in with useful contributions till now. Although India fielded a second-string team, they have had little trouble overpowering the Zimbabweans.

10:04 AM (IST)

Despite showing an initial spark in the first one-dayer, Zimbabwe quickly fizzled out against India. This will be their last chance to get their act together and go for a consolation victory in front of their home crowd.
