Watch: Rooney fires in good corner, gets gigantic bear hug from Van Gaal

Looks like Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney has eased right into the good books of new manager Louis van Gaal straightaway. And his way to do so? A brilliant corner.

An Instagram video from Manchester United’s training session ahead of their match against LA Galaxy shows Van Gaal hugging Rooney after the England international came close to scoring from a corner. It was quite an improvement to his atrocious attempt at the World Cup.

Rooney whips a corner which very nearly results in a goal. The effort appears to have impressed Van Gaal who gets absolutely delighted and doles out a giant bear hug to his player.

Earlier, Rooney had insisted that the Manchester United players were determined to impress the Dutchman.

“Of course, we all have to go out there and show what we can do and show every day in training what different qualities we have as players and a team. Everyone wants to impress a new manager and that’s what we’re aiming to do,” Rooney told MUTV.

Earlier, reports had also emerged that Rooney believed he was ideal for Manchester United captaincy but there were worries that Van Gaal would choose Robin Van Persie.

After watching this Rooney-van Gaal hug it seems like the squad morale isn’t going to be much of a concern for the club.
