Throwback: It's totally worth watching Gavaskar (try) dancing with Madhumati in a Marathi film

We’ve all seen Sunil Gavaskar go goofy once in a while while presenting shows and doing commentary during cricket matches. We’ve also seen him ask Virat Kohli the now popular ‘is she there?’ question — enquiring about the Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper’s girlfriend Anushka Sharma.

He also danced with Virender Sehwag and Navjot Sidhu on a Comedy Nights with Kapil episode. But, the foundation for all this was set long ago — on the sets of Marathi film Saavli Premachi (1974), in which he starred with Madhumati — sister of umpire Piloo Reporter.

The highlight of the movie was Gavaskar and the heroine frolicking from noon to sunset to the song Hey Dil Kunacha, in which he plays cricket left-handed, jumps around, lifts his co-star and swirls, makes really ridiclous Govinda-type expressions and sports a hairstyle you don’t really want to see him in.

Oh, and he’s wearing bell-bottoms which are so long they hide his footwear. You know what? Just watch the video and enjoy.
