London: Premier League newcomers Huddersfield Town on Friday signed 28-year-old Belgian international striker Laurent Depoitre from Portuguese giants Porto in an undisclosed club record deal.
Depoitre, who stands at 6ft 3ins (1.9m) tall, penned a two-year deal and represents Huddersfield’s first signing since they secured promotion through the play-offs.
“I am very happy that we have made Laurent our first signing of this summer window," said coach David Wagner of Depoitre who played in the Champions League with Gent before he left for Porto in 2016.
“He is a proper striker; one who has played for a very good Belgium side, featured in elite European competition and who has won domestic titles.”
Depoitre made his debut for Belgium in a Euro 2016 qualification match against Andorra in October 2015. Depoitre scored his side’s fourth goals as Belgium won 4-1.
