Australia captain Steven Smith hit a brilliant 192 to power Australia to a mammoth 530 on day 2 of the third Test at the MCG. In reply, India finished the day on 108/1, trailing by 422 runs. Getty
Australia started the day on 259/5. Overnight batsmen Smith and Brad Haddin were helped by some poor tactics by India as Haddin lead a counter attack and the pair added 110 runs for the 6th wicket. Haddin finally got back some form with a fifty but soon after, he was caught behind for 55 off Shami. Getty
While Haddin was attacking, Smith played sensibly and brought up his third century of the series. His recent form before the brilliant 192 today: 28, 133, 52*, 162*, 97, 0, 55, 22, 36*, 84, 0, 49, 100. Getty
Just when it looked like India could do some damage limitation after Haddin and Mitchell Johnson's wickets, Ryan Harris joined Smith and the pair added 106 runs for the 8th wicket. Harris looked solid with his technique and scored a fluent 74. Getty
After Harris' departure, Smith upped the ante and played some audacious shots as he brought up his 150 and then went on the attack. Getty
With an eye on declaration, Smith attacked selflessly but fell eight short of his double century as he looked to scoop one by shuffling way outside off off Shami but missed it and found his stumps rattled. He got a standing ovation from the MCG crowd as he walked off, powering Australia to 530. Getty
The Indian bowlers were put to sword. Ishant Sharma conceded 104 runs from 32 overs and was the only pacer who went wicketless. Shami picked four wicket but went at 4.75 runs per over. Getty
India got off to a brisk start but then Harris broke the opening partnership as he had Shkihar Dhawan (28) caught in slips. Smith took a sharp low catch. Getty
But Murali Vijay carried on his sublime form as he played some lovely shots on his way to 55*. He along with Cheteshwar Pujara (25*) made sure that there were no more slip-ups as India ended the day at 108/1, trailing by 422 runs. Getty
