HIGHLIGHTS India vs England, 2nd T20I, cricket scores and updates: Hosts win by 5 runs, level series 1-1
11:20 PM (IST)

That brings us to the end of our live coverage of the second T20I of the series between India and England. The hosts scored under 150 again after doing so in the first match of the series, and containing the hard-hitting England batsmen wouldn’t have been easy. But the wicket was not really conducive for stroke play, and an inspired performance by the  Indian bowlers, led by Bumrah and Nehra took India over the line, and kept them alive in the series.

We will be back with our live coverage of the third and final T20I of the series between the two teams in Bangalore on 1 February. It is going to be winner-takes-all at the Chinnaswamy stadium in a few day’s time. Do join us then. Till that time, it’s goodbye.

11:07 PM (IST)

11:06 PM (IST)

Bumrah: I assessed the wicket and saw what was working for their bowlers. The wicket was on the slower side, so I was bowling back of a length and slower deliveries and bowling stump to stump. There was significant dew, we didn’t expect so much of dew. The wicket was a bit up and down. Back of a length deliveries were skidding. The confidence that captain has shown in me has helped me. It gives you the freedom to do what you want to do.

11:02 PM (IST)

Kohli: It was important to have belief in us. It was the case of executing well initially. We didn’t want the momentum to slip in the middle overs. Bumrah and Nehra were outstanding. It was difficult to grip the ball. Chahal bowled well. Raina bowled four good overs. Nehra was good with the new ball. It was a really good bowling performance. It was a strong character performance, which I am really proud of. Shot-making was very difficult on that wicket. Rahul has good cricketing shots, it is an outstanding effort by him. Bumrah has variations, so we play him regularly. Bangalore is my second home. We will look to be more expressive and correct the mistakes.

10:52 PM (IST)

Morgan: We were in the driver’s seat till the last over. We didn’t start the over well. Losing an in batsman hurt us. The wicket was tough. Bumrah produced a match-winning over. We were right on the  money in the last two matches. Root played an outstanding innings and Stokes supported him well. It’s hugely disappointing to lose today, but have to take it on the chin. Looking forward to the match at Bangalore.

10:50 PM (IST)

Jasprit Bumrah adjudged the Man of the Match.

10:38 PM (IST)

10:37 PM (IST)

Truly the hero for India tonight…

10:37 PM (IST)

Point…

10:36 PM (IST)

10:35 PM (IST)

Nehra: The way Jasprit bowled the last over, hats off to him. I’m happy were on the winning side. The only thing I said was that even if it goes for a four, we would still win by 1 run. So we had all our fielders outside. Even if it is a full toss, it won’t go for a six, I said.

10:32 PM (IST)

10:31 PM (IST)

10:30 PM (IST)

England 139/6 after 20 overs (Moeen- 1, Jordan- 0)

INDIA WIN! Moeen misses. A 5-run victory for Virat Kohli and his boys. What a last over by Bumrah. Just two runs off the last over and two wickets taken. India are alive in the series after all.

10:27 PM (IST)

Another slower ball. Jordan misses but a run is taken. Six needed off the last ball.

10:26 PM (IST)

Bowled ‘Em! Buttler is knocked over off a delivery from Bumrah that skidded on. England 138/6. Buttler goes for 15. Jordan is the new man in. England need 7 off 2.

Buttler b Bumrah 15 (10)

10:24 PM (IST)

Moeen Ali is the next man in. Bumrah is using the slower ball to good effect and England get only one run in the next two balls.

10:22 PM (IST)

OUT! Bumrah raps Root on the pads and it is given out. England lose their fifth wicket for 137. England need 8 runs off 5 balls.

Root LBW b Bumrah 38 (38)

10:20 PM (IST)

England 137/4 after 19 overs (Root- 38, Buttler -15)

Nehra bowls the penultimate over. Root miscues one, the ball goes in the air but drops in a vacant region. Buttler then relieves some pressure with a boundary at square leg. The batsmen scamper for two and then Buttler goes over long on for a six. England need 8 runs off the last over.

10:16 PM (IST)

England 121/4 after 18 overs (Buttler -1 , Root -37)

Bumrah bowls the 18th over. Four dots in the first five balls. The pressure mounts on England. Change of pace serving Bumrah well, and Root is finding it hard to put bat to ball. A desperate Root tries to go over the top on the last delivery and skies one, but the ball drops in the vacant mid wicket region. England need 24 off 12 balls.

10:11 PM (IST)

10:11 PM (IST)

England 118/4 after 17 overs (Buttler- 1, Root – 33)

A fine over by Nehra. Five runs and a wicket from that over. England need 27 runs off 18 balls. Buttler is the new man at the crease.

10:09 PM (IST)

Out! Stokes dismissed and it had to be Nehra. A full slower ball hits the big English all-rounder on the back leg. That would have crashed into middle and leg. Third wicket for the veteran bowler. England lose their 4th wicket for 117 in the 17th over.

Stokes lbw Nehra 38 (27)

10:03 PM (IST)

10:02 PM (IST)

England 113/3 after 16 overs (Stokes- 36, Root – 31)

Bumrah back into the attack. Bowls a juicy full toss and Stokes despatches it to the mid-wicket fence. The England batsmen take a quick single on the last ball. England need 32 runs off 24 balls.

10:00 PM (IST)

10:00 PM (IST)

England 104/3 after 15 overs (Stokes- 27, Root – 31)

Chahal back into the attack and Stokes muscles a delivery over long on into the stands. These long boundaries aren’t going to deter the big Ben Stokes. Eleven runs off that over. England need 41 runs off the last five overs.

England 93/3 after 14 overs (Stokes- 17, Root – 30)

Stokes hammers the first delivery of the next over from Raina straight back past the bowler for a four. On the next ball, the big Englishman dances down the track and puts one into the stands at long on. England need 52 runs off the last 36 balls.

England 80/3 after 13 overs (Stokes- 5, Root – 29)

Mishra bowls out, going for 25 runs in his four overs, taking the crucial wicket of Morgan, but he will rue the blunder that denied India and him the wicket of Root – another top England batsman.

England 77/3 after 12 overs (Stokes- 3, Root – 28)

Big shout for LBW against Root, but replays show the ball missing the leg stump. Good call by umpire Shamshuddin. Stokes pulls the last ball hard, but Bumrah does well at the deep mid wicket fence. Eight runs from that over. Not a bad one from Raina.

England 69/3 after 11 overs (Stokes- 1, Root – 26)

Stokes the new man in. He is comprehensively bowled by Mishra. What a wicket this is. But wait! The umpires are checking for a no-ball. And it IS a no-ball. a misfortune for India! But they have themselves to blame. This is the third match on the trot now that India had got wickets off no-balls. Root doesn’t capitalise on the ensuing free-hit.

Out! Big breakthrough for India. The dangerous Morgan goes, and Mishra is the man for India.

The England captain goes for 17 off 23. England 65/3 in the 11th over, and Mishra looks delighted. The off-break and long boundaries doing the trick for India.

Morgan – c Pandya b Mishra 17 (23)

England 65/2 after 10 overs (Morgan- 17, Root – 24)

Just five runs from that Raina over. A very economical over in the context of the game. India have so far kept England under leash.

England 60/2 after 9 overs (Morgan- 14, Root – 22)

Root gets two boundaries on the trot off Mishra. The first ball is played to fine leg and on the next ball, he gets an inside edge which runs away to the fence. Nehra escorts the ball to the boundary, choosing not to dive. The effect of age on him is showing! Mishra looks utterly disappointed.

England 49/2 after 8 overs (Morgan- 13, Root – 13)

Raina bowls his first over for five overs. India would need to break this partnership quickly. They are consolidating a bit now after England lost two quick wickets and can accelerate at any moment. India will be wary of that.

The light on the bails on the stumps at one of the ends not working, and there is a stoppage in play.

England 44/2 after 7 overs (Morgan- 11, Root – 11)

Root and Morgan milk the bowling in Mishra’s first over. There is a heart-stopping moment for England on the last ball. As the batsmen scamper for the extra second run, a fine throw from Bumrah in the deep is gathered by Dhoni, who whips the bails off. Is Root short of his crease. Could he have dived? There is an appeal as the umpires go upstairs. Replays though calm English nerves. Root had made his ground.

Amit Mishra into the attack for the first time. His first ball is a slider. India’s chances will depend to a great extent on how Mishra goes tonight.

England 36/2 after 6 overs (Morgan- 9, Root – 5)

Bumrah into the attack now. The second ball doesn’t bounce much. Morgan plays an attractive square cut for his first boundary on the fourth ball. He got the placement spot on. Plays one towards mid-wicket then and gets two.

England 29/2 after 5 overs (Morgan- 3, Root – 4)

Just five runs from that Chahal over. A good comeback from him after conceding 15 runs in his last over.

England 24/2 after 4 overs (Morgan- 1, Root – 1)

No hat-trick for Nehra in the end, but India in command now. Two new batsmen in the crease in the form of Morgan and Root. They are very experienced and had steered England to victory in the last T20I. Can they do it again here?

Out! Nehra gets two in two. The ball is stopping on the batsmen. Roy holes out to Raina at mid-on for 10. He is on a hat-trick. England 22/2 in the 4th over.

Roy c Raina b Nehra 10

Out! Nehra pitches one short and it hurries on to Billings. The opener goes for a pull and holes out to Bumrah at the fine leg. England lose first wicket for 22 in the fourth over. Billings out for 12.

Billings c Bumrah b Nehra 12

England 22/0 after 3 overs (Roy- 10, Billings- 12)

Roy and Billings hit two sixes each off Chahal. Both over long on. Fifteen runs off that over. England on the charge.

England 7/0 after 2 overs (Roy- 3, Billings- 4)

Veteran Ashish Nehra shares the new ball from the other end. The England batsmen are going hard at the ball but are hitting to the fielders. They run a quick single to Raina at mid on as the fieldsman doesn’t gather the ball cleanly to take a shy at the stumps.

England 2/0 after 1 over (Roy- 1, Billings- 1)

Roy and Billings start for England and India, like England, start with a spinner. Chahal has the new ball and bowls a tidy over to start with.

England 2/0 after 1 over (Roy- 1, Billings- 1)

Roy and Billings start for England, and like England did, India also start the bowling with a spinner. Yuzvendra Chahal starts proceedings for India and concedes only two runs of the first over.

England stifled the Indian batsmen again. 147 was not enough for India in the last T20I, will 144 be enough this evening? Our expert Ayaz Memon discusses…

Rahul: We knew it was not a high-scoring wicket, we are happy with 144. I was lucky to have cashed in before the bowlers knew where to nbowl.

India 144/8 after 20 overs

A brilliant last over by Jordan. Only five runs off it and three wickets. And what’s more Dhoni was not allowed to get away. In the last five overs only 36 runs were scored and five wickets had fallen. A fine performance by England with the ball again. It is again a very modest total. India will have their task cut out.

Out! It’s Dhoni this time. He drags one on  to his stumps. England stifle India again. India lose their 8th wicket on 144.

Another run out. Amit Mishra  goes without scoring. India 144/7 with one ball to go.

Out! Pandya hits one straight back. The ball hits the stumps on the non-striker’s end. The bowler Jordan uproots the stump as the batsmen are attempting a run. India lose their sixth wicket for 143.

India 139/4 after 19 overs

Pandey gets a six over wide long on and gets a two on the next ball, but Mills comes back well to dismiss him for 30 off 26 balls. How much can they score with one over to go? Pandya is the new man in.

Bowled ‘Em! Mills gets the better of Pandey. The young right-hander tried to make room and slaqsh one on the off side, but misses and gets his stumps rattled. India lose fifth wicket for 139 in the 19th over.

Pandey b Mills 30 (26)

India 129/4 after 18 overs (Pandey- 21, Dhoni- 2)

Dhoni finally comes to bat, but is it to late? A fine over for England. Only 5 runs off that Jordan over and a wicket.

Out! Rahul goes after a well-made 71. He plays one straight to Stokes at deep mid-wicket. A big breakthrough for England. Rahul goes for 71 off 47 balls. India lose their fourth wicket on 125 in the 18th over.

Rahul c Stokes b Jordan 71 (47)

India 124/3 after 17 overs (Pandey- 18, Rahul- 71)

Fifty-run partnership between Rahul and Pandey. But not a bad over from Stokes in the context of the game. Rahul gets an edge on the last delivery – a full one from Stokes – and the ball races away to the boundary. A boundary after 19 balls.

India 114/3 after 16 overs (Pandey- 14, Rahul- 65)

Another quiet over. Only six runs off it. England are putting on the choke on the Indian batsmen again. It is surprising though that Dhoni had been held back. India desperately need to score at least 160 to stand a chance, but have only four overs to do it.

India 108/3 after 15 overs

Pandey gets a life. He misses a Stokes delivery, and the ball kisses the stumps on its way to the ‘keeper. Desperately unlucky for England. But a tidy over nevertheless. Stokes gives away only three runs. England have not let India India get away again.

India 105/3 after 14 overs (Pandey-9, Rahul- 62)

Rahul comes down the track and smashes Rashid to the extra cover fence. He then brings up the 100 for India with a finely swept boundary by Rahul. Twelve runs off that over. Another good over for India.

India 105/3 after 14 overs (Pandey-9, Rahul- 62)

Rahul comes down the track and smashes Rashid to the extra cover fence. He then brings up the 100 for India with a finely swept boundary by Rahul. Twelve runs off that over. Another good over for India.

India 93/3 after 13 overs (Pandey-7, Rahul- 52)

Rahul gets to his fifty. He has had a tough time in the limited overs series – both ODIs and T20Is so far and he looks to be back in form. Moeen, though, has been brilliant. Gives away just six off that over. He ends his quota of 4 overs for 20 runs, getting Yuvraj’s wicket.

India 87/3 after 12 overs (Pandey-4, Rahul- 49)

Dawson is back into the attack and is greeted by Rahul with a huge six. He dances down the track and deposits the ball into the stands over wide long on. And on the last ball of the over, Rahul smashes a boundary at mid wicket and moves to 49.

India 72/3 after 11 overs (Pandey-2, Rahul- 36)

Another tidy over by Moeen. Only five runs from that over. Manish Pandey is the new man in.

Out! Yuvraj goes for a sweep, misses and is caught in front of the stumps. Moeen strikes. India lose third wicket for 69 in the 11th over.

India 67/2 after 10 overs (Yuvraj-1, Rahul- 35)

Rahul takes on Rashid and slog sweeps him for a six on the third ball. Ten runs off that over. A good one for India.

India 57/2 after 9 overs (Yuvraj-0, Rahul- 27)

Moeen is bowling really well. Beats Yuvraj with sharp spin and then has him sprawling on the ground. There is an appeal for LBW against him, but is turned down. Just a run from that over.

India 56/2 after 8 overs (Yuvraj-0, Rahul- 26)

Yuvraj Singh is the new man in. A fine over by Rashid. Only two runs off that over and a wicket.

Out! Raina tries to attack a googly from Rashid, playing against the turn and skies one. Jordon completes a comfortable catch at long on. He goes for 7 off 10 balls. India lose their 2nd wicket on 56.

Raina – c Jordan b Rashid 7(10)

India 54/1 after 7 overs (Raina-6, Rahul- 25)

Hero of the last match Moeen Ali into the attack now. He had set up England’s win in Kanpur with figures of 2/21. Rahul tries a reverse sweep on the fourth ball, gets a bottom edge and the ball runs away behind the ‘keeper. India take three runs to bring up their fifty. Eight runs off that over.

India 46/1 after 6 overs (Raina-3, Rahul- 21)

Stokes into the attack now. He is getting some good away swing and beats Raina outside off. Gets slammed by Rahul through extra cover for a superb boundary on the fourth ball. It was a delightful shot by Rahul. Textbook stuff, piercing the gap between the fielders with great precision.

India 37/1 after 5 overs (Raina-1, Rahul- 15)

The slower delivery did the trick for England against Kohli. Raina is the new man in. Meanwhile the batsmen had crossed when Kohli had hit the ball in the air and Rahul hits the next ball to the fence. Raina plays and misses his first ball. In the end, seven runs from that over.

Out! Kohli is gone. Big break for England. Kohli hits one off Jordan in the air and holes out to Dawson at long on in the fifth over.

Kohli – c Dawson b Jordan 21 (15)

India 30/0 after 4 overs (Kohli- 21, Rahul- 9)

Kohli on the attack! Mills bowls short of a length ourside off and Kohli dismisses him on the back foot over long on for a six. Mills bowls the second ball short outside leg and Kohli hits it to the boundary at backward square leg. The next ball is played over cover-point. Kohli was not in complete control of the shot but gets two. Rahul plays an aggressive shot on the last ball. Fifteen runs off that over. A big one for India

India 15/0 after 3 overs (Kohli- 8, Rahul- 7)

Dawson gets a break after bowling just one over. Chris Jordan replaces him and raps Kohli on the pads. It looks close by not out given by the on field umpire. There is no review in the T20I series, but TV replays showed it was been plumb. A life for the Indian captain early on. Five runs from that over. The Indians have made a steady start so far.

India 10/0 after 2 overs (Kohli- 7, Rahul- 3)

Tymal Mills bowls the second over of the Indian innings. He is bowling round the wicket and bringing the ball into Kohli. The third ball is short-pitched and well directed, hurrying on to the Indian captain. Kohli plays a pull and gets a top edge, taking the ball over the wicket keeper’s head and hits the boundary on the full. Kohli gets his first four. A desperate dive by Sam Billings at the boundary is not enough.

India 5/0 after 1 over (Kohli- 2, Rahul- 3)

A handsome-looking cover drive by Kohli off teh first ball itself, but there is a fielder in the deep. He gets a run and opens India’s account. Rahul plays the second ball of the innings with soft hands on the off side and the batsmen scamper through for two. Kohli plays the last ball away quietly for a single.

Indian captain Virat Kohli walks out to the centre with KL Rahul to open India’s innings. England to start with left-arm spinner Liam Dawson.

The players are out on the field for the national anthems now.

This is how India line-up for their do-or-die battle in the second T20I of the series against England. Amit Mishra gets a look in. One may remember how he decimated New Zealand in the ODI series decider last year. Can he do the star turn for India again?

Virat Kohi and Co find themselves under real pressure after a very long time. They simply have to win the second T20I against England to stay alive in the series. How may the game pan out. Our expert Ayaz Memon discusses.

Morgan at the toss: There is not a blade of grass on the wicket, it’s a typical Indian wicket. We have got in one spinner.

Kohli at the toss: Would have wanted to bowl, but it might not be a bad thing to bat first. We have got in an extra leg spinner, with Raina being the part timer. England were finding the leg spinners difficult to get away. We have got in Mishra who has a few variations up his sleeve. Eight good overs from the two leg-spinners can be all the difference. It is a dry surface. We are not too upset to bat first.

India XI: Kohli (c), Rahul, Raina, Yuvraj, Dhoni (wk), Pandey, Pandya, Mishra, Bumrah, Nehra, Chahal

Amit Mishra replaces Parvez Rasool for India in the 2nd T20I against England.

England captain Eoin Morgan has won the toss and elected to field.

Pitch report: The pitch is quite dry, the ball might skid on and there will be turn for spinners. India need to bat better and build partnerships. The captain winning the toss have opted to field first, because of the dew factor, because they know how much to chase and the asking rate.
