Vani, who has been in sublime form this season, was her consistent self today carding three birdies on the third, 12th and 13th holes as opposed to a solitary bogey on the 18th hole.

Ankita also had an immaculate round today as she carded three birdies on the ninth, 11th and 13th holes and like Vani conceded just a single bogey on the seventh hole.

In the absence of seasoned players like Smriti Mehra, Sharmila Nicollet and Neha Tripathi, the young guns of Indian women’s golf made sure that there was no dearth of quality.

The likes of Shweta Galande, Vasishavi Sinha and Saaniya Sharma ensured good scores on an overcast day. Shweta carded four birdies on the first, second, fifth and 18th holes and had bogeys on the seventh, 13th and 15th holes to finish round one with an impressive score of one under 71, tied at third position along with Vaishavi.
