Cricket: Bangar, Arun and Sridhar to continue as India's assistant coaches

Looks like the change of guard at the Board of Control for Cricket in India will not affect the role of the three assistant coaches B Arun (bowling), R Sridhar (fielding) and Sanjay Bangar (batting).

ESPNCricinfo reports that there were some doubts over whether Bangar would continue in his role but chief coach Ravi Shastri wants to retain him as part of the coaching staff.

Arun and Sridhar were ‘assured of renewal of their contracts before the team’s departure to Bangladesh’, the report adds.

Shastri was appointed as team director midway through the England tour last year and has continued to be part of the setup — and has strongly hinted that he will be at the helm of team affairs and coaching even after the Bangladesh tour.

The report says that Bangar’s position was under scrutiny and quotes an insider as saying that this was due to “apprehensive feedback from a couple of batsmen”.

The insider also informs that Praveen Amre, Lalchand Rajput and WV Raman were in the running for Bangar’s job. These three could be offered coaching stints at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore.

Things will be clearer after the team returns from their Bangladesh tour on 25 June.
