Satta bazaar: No BJP majority in Jharkhand or J&K, say bookies

Just one out of five phases have been completed in the Jammu-Kashmir and Jharkhand Assembly polls but bookies are already predicting a hung assembly in both states. Satta Bazaar experts, however, predict that BJP’s tally is set to rise substantially in both states thanks to Narendra Modi.

According to bookies the Economic Times spoke to , the BJP is expected to win around 25 of the 87 Assembly seats in Jammu and Kashmir whereas in Jharkhand, they are expected to win 25 out of  81 seats. Their current tally is 11 and 18, respectively.

“The odds of the BJP winning 25 seats in the J&K assembly are 0.58:1 - that means, bookies are willing to pay 58 paise for each rupee bet on the BJP winning 25 seats, two members from separate betting syndicates in Delhi said. They will pay 70 paise on accurate bets of the party winning 20 seats and Rs 1.10 if it gets 30. If the bet is for 35 berths in the 87-member assembly, and that turns out to be the outcome, one rupee will earn Rs 2.25 for those who predicted it accurately. As the returns increase, the chances of winning reduce,” ET reports.

In Jammu and Kashmir, the bookies predict that the National Conference’s seat share could drop to five from the current  28, while also predicting a complete wipe out for the Congress - which currently has 17 seats and has ended its alliance with the ruling National Conference.

Interestingly, the Election Commission - in an unprecedented move - has banned all exit poll and opinion polls in both the states. The election results will be announced on 23 December, after the five-phase poll process is completed in both the states.
