'Mamata's agitation for Singur won't go waste; hope Tatas will return land'

Sahaganj (WB): Senior Trinamool Congress leader and West Bengal Education Minister Partha Chatterjee on Thursday said Mamata Banerjee’s hunger strike and agitation for Singur’s farmers in 2006 will not go waste and hoped that the Tata Group will understand the language of the people of Singur and will return the land of unwilling farmers.

Speaking on the occasion of Singur Day on the sidelines of reopening of Dunlop’s Sahagunj plant in Hooghly district, Chatterjee said, “I hope Tata Group’s officials, understanding the language (of pain and suffering) of Singur people, will return the land of the unwilling farmers on their own.”

Chatterjee hoped that people’s voices will get reflected in the final order of the apex court on Singur and unwilling farmers will get back their farmland.

Chatterjee did not gave any clear reply when asked about chances of out-of-court settlement.

Farmers who owned some 400 acres of land in the Singur plot meant for Tata Motors for their Nano project factory did not accept compensation for their land.
