Chetan Bhagat’s ninth book One Indian Girl has already been making headlines and for various reasons. The book, which is slated to release in this October, broke pre-order records , the author released contentious excerpts and Bhagat even got baptised as Chatan — the writer has had quite a busy season so far.
Keeping up his persona of making headlines, Bhagat released a one-minute teaser giving the readers an idea of what his new book’s protagonist will be like. Bhagat aka Radhika Mehta expands on why she ‘finds it difficult to get love’ and why ‘society judges women achievers’ , especially in India.
The transcript of the monologue is as follows:
“Hi, I’m Radhika Mehta and I’m getting married this week. I work in a top investment bank. Thank you for reading my crazy story. However, let me warn you. You may not like me too much. One, I make a lot of money. Two, I have an opinion on everything. Three, I have had sex before. Now if I were a guy, you’d be cool with all this. Since I am a girl, these things don’t really make me too likeable, do they?”
“I have written stories about other issues - education system, inter-community marriages, corruption for instance. In all of those I try to do justice to the issue. Hopefully, I have done the same here,” the author elaborates about the message of the book . Some people don’t think he really will.
I have no problem with anybody giving lectures in the assembly until he is Chetan Bhagat.
