It is an established fact that India’s public school system does not have the best education model. But this shocking incident of a school teacher writing ‘daaru piyo’ (drink alcohol) on the blackboard and making children repeat it, proves that it can actually be terrible.

The incident occurred in a school in Korea district of Chhattisgarh where a teacher, identified as Shivbaran Singh, was allegedly drunk and therefore teaching his young students beyond the syllabus. He wrote daaru piyo, among other things, on the blackboard in Devnagari script and asked the children to repeat it.

The students, probably oblivious to the meaning of what they were learning, dutifully repeated it after their teacher. The entire incident was caught on camera and the video made the rounds on YouTube.

According to NDTV , it was filmed by a local journalist. This teacher is supposedly known to be drunk during class and this wasn’t the first time it happened, according to a video by India TV .

The same video has Singh admitting that he had been drinking and accepted the error in his ways saying that he will quit drinking. “I accept my mistake. I shouldn’t have taught students after consuming alcohol. I assure I will never do this again,” the teacher was quoted as saying by ANI.

In response, the authorities have said that they will launch an enquiry into the incident and that Singh will face strict action.  “Being drunk at the work place is against the ideal behavior of a government official especially for a teacher. If this has been done by a teacher then we will investigate and take strict action against him.” District collector of Korea Sanjiv Jha is quoted as saying by NDTV.
