NDTV reported that the woman, Lalita, was murdered for objecting to trees planted on her farm being cut down to allow the construction of a road in Jodhpur’s Pipda. A group of men, including village head Ranveer Singh, allegedly attacked Lalita, poured petrol on her and set her ablaze. Lalita was rushed to hospital and died of her injuries on Monday morning.

“The dispute was over a road, my sister was opposing it…they poured petrol on her and set her on fire,” the woman’s brother, Vidyadhar, told NDTV.

The Indian Express reported that Lalita’s body was taken to MJH hospital in Jodhpur, even as the police registered a case against 10 people and are investigating. The incident has sparked anger and outrage with villagers demanding the arrest of the attackers within 24 hours, The Quint reported.
