In a shocking case, two women accused in a theft case were allegedly given electric shocks inside a police station in Bholath area in Punjab.

Kapurthala, Punjab: Two women accused in a theft case were allegedly given electric shocks inside a police station in Bholath area in Punjab, following which an Assistant Sub-Inspector was suspended.

Senior Superintendent of Police Dhanpreet Kaur said ASI Raghbir Singh was suspended for his alleged involvement in the incident. An inquiry was also ordered by the SSP, who deputed Bholath DSP Mukesh Kumar to probe the matter and submit a report soon.

The women had been detained for interrogation in a Rs 15 lakh theft case that took place in Lakhan Khole village today. Former village sarpanch Inderjit Kaur, who had accompanied the women to the police station, was made to sit outside while they were questioned in the case.

When the women did not return for over two hours, Kaur went inside the police station and found them unconscious, the SSP said. The women were admitted to a private hospital where they were referred to a civil hospital in Kapurthala. Their condition is stated be normal.

Kaur alleged that the women were subjected to torture in the police station and electric shocks were given to them.
