Padma Awards 2015: Advani, Amitabh Bachchan, Dilip Kumar get Padma Vibhushan

One of the highest civilian honours, Padma awards were announced on Sunday. President Pranab Mukherjee approved conferring of the prestigious award to 104 personalities from various fields of activities, namely art, social work, public affairs, science and engineering, trade and industry, medicine, literature and education, sports, civil service, etc.

Senior BJP leader L K Advani, actors Amitabh Bachchan, Dilip Kumar and Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal will be conferred with Padma Vibhushan, media reports said.

This year, the list of the awardees comprises of 9 Padma Vibhushan, 20 Padma Bhushan and 75 Padma Shri, Zee News report said. Microsoft founder and one of the world’s foremost philanthropists Bill Gates, along with his wife Melinda will receive the Padma Bhushan, for their social work.

Professor Manjul Bhargava, who won the Fields Trophy - known as the ‘Nobel Prize of Mathematics’ — will be conferred with the Padma Bhushan for his contribution to the fields of science and engineering.

Cricketer Mithali Raj, badminton player PV Sindhu, filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali and lyricist Prasoon Joshi are among the recipients of the Padma Shri, the reports added.

This year, among the recipients of the awards 17 are women. This year’s awards also includes 17 persons from the category of foreigners, NRIs, PIOs and 4 Posthumous awardees.

Ravindra Jain, the composer behind “Chor Machaye Shor”, “Geet Gata Chal” and “Chitchor”, will get the Padma Shri with columnist Taarak Mehta, whose articles inspired TV show “Taarak Mehta Ka Ulta Chashma”, a PTI report said.

The Padma awards, which are announced on the eve of the Republic Day, are conferred by the President at a function in Rashtrapati Bhavan in March/April every year.
