Raipur: Three villagers were killed allegedly by Maoists in separate incidents in Bastar region of Chhattisgarh, police said on Wednesday.
While two villagers who were kidnapped from a village in Kondagaon district were allegedly killed by Naxals after holding a Jan Adalat (Kangaroo court), another was murdered in Kanker district.
“The victims identified as Budhru and Manku, tribals from Kudur village under Mardapal police station limits of Kondagaon were brutally beaten to death by rebels,” Kondagaon Superintendent of Police JS Watti told PTI.
As per preliminary information, three villagers from Kudur area were abducted by Naxalites on 4 April while two others on Tuesday.
Subsequently, the ultras held a ‘Jan Adalat’ late Tuesday night around 15 km away from Kudur in Tilam-Becha area which falls in Narayanpur district, the SP said.
“In the Jan Adalat, two villagers were reportedly executed whereas three others released,” he added.
The exact reason behind their killing was being ascertained. However, the information suggests that they were accused of acting as police informers, he said.
Police said security personnel have been rushed to the spot.
Becha area is said to be the strong base of the Maoists military cadres which lies on the tri-junction of Bastar-Kondagaon-Narayanpur districts around 400 km away from Raipur.
In a separate incident, a 35-year-old villager was killed allegedly by Naxals for refusing to support them in Kanker.
Lalit Dugga was brutally beaten with sticks to death by rebels at his native place Kadgaon under Partapur police station limits on Tuesday, Pakhanjore Sub-Divisional Officer of Police (SDOP) Jai Prakash Badhai said.
As per the preliminary information, a group of rebels abducted Dugga from his house in Kadgaon, located around 350 kms from Raipur, and later he was beaten to death, he said.
The victim’s kin revealed in their statement that Naxals had earlier also thrashed Dugga for not supporting them.
When the victim remained firm on his stand of not supporting the outlawed outfit, the rebels killed him, the SDOP said.
Security forces were rushed to the spot, he said, adding that the body has been handed over to the relatives after the postmortem.
Security personnel have launched a search in the region to nab the assailants, he added.
