Doctors in Ahmedabad also protested on Friday in solidarity with the Maharashtra doctors. Meanwhile, the Bombay High Court and Maharashtra government reacted rather strongly to the prolonged protests. While Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said he sympathised with the doctors and will do everything to ensure their safety at job, he said that “enough was enough” and chided the protesting doctors for dragging the whole issue. The court also directed the government at first to resolve the issue amicable but later took a tough stand as doctor refused to withdraw strike. PTI
After the state government assured that steps will be taken to ensure the doctors’ safety at public hospitals, Indian Medical Association withdrew from the strike on Friday Morning. However, resident doctors associated with Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors (MARD) continued to stage a protest at the Sangli District Civil Hospital in Sangli and other places across Maharashtra. The strike was finally and wholly called off late on Friday evening. PTI
