According to the advocate Robin Mugera, who appears for the accused in the case, Desai will visit Gulberg Society during afternoon to get an understanding about the topography of the society and exact locations of the houses.

“Site visit helps the judge to verify the claims made by witnesses. For example, a witness would claim that he has seen the crime happening inside his neighbour’s kitchen from his toilet window. Thus, the judge needs to verify if that is possible. It will give him an idea about the exact topography of that society,” Mugera said.

At least 69 persons of the minority community living in this society, including former Congress MP Ehsan Jafri, were killed during the post-Godhra riots. The incident took place on February 28, 2002, a day after the Godhra train burning incident.

The trial of the Gulberg Society case is in the final stage of hearing.
