BR Chopra’s iconic Mahabharata TV serial from 1988 that created history — alongside Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayana — in its day by getting audiences hooked to mythology drama is set to make a comeback on a different medium. Doordarshan News tweeted that All India Radio (AIR) will broadcast the mythological show from 19 December on its primary channels and FM Gold stations of Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai.

The ‘Hindi Zone’ to which the DD News tweet alludes comprises the states of Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Meghalaya, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttaranchal, Uttar Pradesh and Union Territories of Delhi and Port Blair reported Zee News .

“Tuning in to Mahabharata on Akashvani, will certainly be an experience for life and it can be enjoyed even if you are on the move through car stereos or in built mobile radios. Program will also be live streamed on allindiaradio.gov.in,” an AIR official said to The Times Of India.

The original teleserial comprised of 94 episodes and was broadcast on DD National from 2 October 1988 to 24 June 1990. The serial was directed by Ravi Chopra and was produced by his father BR Chopra.

The programme will be aired from Monday to Friday at 11.30 am to noon, announced Doordarshan News. According to the tweet by Doordarshan News, the show will be divided into 140 episodes with the duration of a single episode at 30 minutes.
