Red FM radio jockey Malishka recently ran into legal trouble over a video that was posted on the channel’s social media page. The Yuva Sena alleged that she was defaming Mumbai and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), by blaming them for shortcomings in an aspect of the city that does not fall under their jurisdiction.
In this video titled ‘Mumbai Tula BMC Var Bharso Naye Ka’, she and her team spoke about how Mumbai’s residents are inconvenienced by ill-maintained highways and other commuting issues. The Yuva Sena defended them by saying that highways, railways and traffic are not dealt with by the BMC.
However, later, the BMC sent her a notice for an entirely different reason — charging her with allowing the collection of standing or flowing water in which mosquitoes are breeding or are likely to breed.
Red FM has now released a follow-up video, where the team discusses how support has been pouring in Mallishka. They ask if we don’t have faith in RJs, and assert that people should not stop RJs from expressing their opinions. They further go on to discuss how the city’s infrastructure is damaged, and to make their point, they sit in a boat in a waterlogged part of the city. It’s evident that the video is a reference to a political party.
Additionally, Malishka hit back at critics with this tweet:
6 songs composed and ready in my head and they are NOT about New York😈I'm a rapper now. Also a breeder apparently and back soon 😈 #Mumbai.

Speaking about the first video , Samadhan Sarvankar said, “The video did not name the Shiv Sena directly, but it hurts us that Mumbai’s and the BMC’s image is unnecessarily taking a hit. The two main highways of Mumbai don’t come under the BMC and it is not responsible for Mumbai’s traffic or the functioning of its railways.” He is the son of Sena legislator Sada Sarvankar. The Sena has also requested that a Rs 500 crore defamation case be filed against Malishka.
A BMC corporator responded to the issue to Hindustan Times, by saying, “The BMC’s legal department will decide what action is best suited in this case. The song has hurt the city’s efforts at attracting foreign investment and global talent. The civic body can either file a defamation suit or issue a warning.”
