Firstpost, in one of its earlier reports , suggested that the Mahesh Babu-starrer SPYder release date was postponed to 29 September, from its initial date of release on 11 August or 23 June. The reason cited was to utilise the Dussehra period and cash in as much as possible.
Now, there is buzz that the film’s release has yet again been pushed to Diwali, reports greatandhra.com.
According to the report, the film is being made in Telugu and Tamil simultaneously. The Telugu superstar wants to target the Tamil market with this film. Since Diwali or Deepavali is a massive festival in Tamil Nadu and there is a tradition of big-star releases during the festival, the makers want to release SPYder around the same time.
However, another major factor affecting the release date of the film is the delay in production. Although the major shooting is done, two songs are still left to be shot. Then there will be a three-month post production schedule. So, the makers deemed it wise to delay the release date of the film.
There are also reports that Junior NTR’s upcoming movie Jai Lava Kusa is slated to release on 21 September. Film trade analyst Ramesh Bala took to Twitter and reported the same.

It is impossible to get a share of around Rs 20 crore or even more on the first day, if a movie doesn’t get released in 70 per cent of screens. Such clashes of box-office ’titans’ will have a negative effect on the pre-and-post release business of both the films. In order to avoid a clash at the box-office between massive-star releases, SPYder team is reported to have postponed the film’s release, reports tupaki.com.
Written and directed by AR Murugadoss, SPYder is a spy thriller with Mahesh Babu and Rakul Preet Singh in the lead roles. Babu is apparently playing a bureau officer. S.J. Surya is playing the antagonist and Rakul Preet is Babu’s love interest.
This is the first time that Murugadoss and Babu have collaborated for a project. Composer Harris Jayaraj has provided the score for the film.
However, no official confirmation regarding pushing the release date to the festival of lights has been received.
