When the news of an upcoming bhajan reality show titled Om Shanti Om broke, we thought - Aah! Just another day for Indian television.
However, when reports of yoga guru Baba Ramdev, composer Shekhar Ravijani, singer Kanika Kapoor and….a musically inclined (?) Sonakshi Sinha being the judges of the show surfaced, we at FP Special Forces instantly saw it as a glorious day at work.
Life Ok, which is reportedly going to rename itself Star Bharat from Independence Day (Bharat mata ki jai), is going to bring spirituality to the forefront by launching a spiritual reality show, as per Indian Express . The participants will croon devotional songs to impress the ‘Maha’ Guru - Baba Ramdev and his team.
Let us then point out the obvious - what is Sonakshi Sinha doing on the panel of a singing reality show? That too for the second time? Armaan Malik, are you listening? Anup Jalota, we like you, but let’s be honest, this is probably the only time this generation wants to listen to you.
Sinha is a stellar actress… when she is not cast opposite Akshay Kumar. She is a vivacious performer. However, apart from little stints here and there, and a song from one her 2016 films, we can’t seem to make the connection between devotional songs and Sonakshi Sinha.
Sinha judging the eighth season of Nach Baliye 8 was understandable and why shouldn’t it be? She is a performer and can definitely dance. Moreover, she did a decent job of it (dance is half of her job in Bollywood, so we’d be surprised if she didn’t).
However, what is with actors these days trying so hard to be jump onto the singers’ bandwagon? More importantly, if this does not irk Anuradha Paudwal, there’s probably nothing that will.
It is not against the rules to want to able to multitask, but shouldn’t the basis of being chosen to judge a singing reality show be solely merit?
Apparently not. FP Special Forces would still like to call this a convoluted case of miscasting.
If the show still goes on with Sinha, the actor must prove her merit as a devotional singer and put out a disclaimer before singing live because no one has really recovered from this yet:
