Comic-con 2017 is underway in San Diego. Here’s a roundup of all major developments - from Black Panther and Batgirl to Batman and Ant-Man and the Wasp.

Comic-con is underway in San Diego and it is getting increasingly difficult to keep track of all that has been going on. With multiple trailers, sneak-peaks, cast announcements being made, we thought it’d be a good idea to have a roundup of all major developments. Have a look:

Michelle Pfeiffer to star in Ant-Man and the Wasp

Actress Michelle Pfeiffer has come on board for Marvel’s Ant-Man and the Wasp. The 59-year-old actress will play Janet Van Dyne, the superhero wife of Hank Pym/Ant-Man who was played by Michael Douglas in the original film, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Another actor joining the film is Laurence Fishburne. He is portraying Bill Foster, the comic book hero Giant Man. The announcement was made at the ongoing Comic-Con in San Diego. Ant-Man and the Wasp is scheduled for release on 6 July next year.

Shazam! to release in 2019

2019 is going to be a great year for DC fans as well, as the Warner Bros. panel confirmed that Shazam!, their upcoming film will bring Captain Marvel on screen, according to Heavy.com . Shazam is the story of a boy who gets superpowers from the Gods and becomes the most powerful man on earth. The film will be directed by David F. Sanberg. Dwayne Johnson might play Shazam’s rival, Black Adam.

Black Panther stands out

Black Panther stole the show Saturday night at Marvel Studios’ Comic-Con presentation, outshining the Ant-Man, Thor and even the ultimate Avengers team-up, Infinity War.

Fans went wild for the exclusive sneak peek at the upcoming superhero pic, featuring star Chadwick Boseman T’Challa intercepting a sketchy vibranium trade between Andy Serkis’ Klaw and Martin Freeman’s Everett. Set in an elegant, Japanese-inspired casino, the deal goes haywire and T’Challa and his security detail (Lupita Nyong’o and Danai Gurira) jump to action in their evening gowns to retrieve the precious goods.

Harley Quinn and The Joker spin-off

Production banners Warner Bros and DC Entertainment are reportedly developing a movie focusing on Harley Quinn and The Joker. According to the Screen Rant, both Margot Robbie and Jared Leto are set to reprise their respective roles in the movie which has a title of Harley Quinn vs The Joker, reports aceshowbiz.com.

Both Quinn and Joker are villains and part of Suicide Squad.

According to the site, the yet-to-be-confirmed project seems to be in addition to Suicide Squad 2, which has Jaume Collet-Serra as the top choice to direct, and the in-development Gotham City Sirens, which has confirmed the return of Robbie as the pig-tailed super-villain with David Ayer on board to sit behind the camera.

The new project is described as a Suicide Squad spin-off and DC Entertainment President and CCO Geoff is set to produce.

Joss Whedon will start work on Batgirl “next year”

The 53-year-old director is helming the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) movie, which centres around the female crime fighting superhero and her alter ego - who has had many different names including Betty Kane and Barbara Gordon and according to DC chief Geoff Johns, the filmmaker is due to start working on the project as soon as 2018.

Speaking to  IGN.com  about the future of both ‘Batman’ and Batgirl, Geoff said, “But for Batman what I will say is that Batman is more than just Batman and, you know, it’s been way too long since we’ve seen, you know, an expansion of that universe, and Batgirl - we are doing Batgirl with Joss Whedon, it’s going to be super exciting. He’s going to start that next year, and that’s just the start.”
