RIP Dhipan: Industry stalwarts remember noted Malayalam film director

Malayalam film director Dhipan, 45 passed away in Kochi today morning.  He was undergoing treatment following liver ailments for some time and was admitted into hospital as his condition deteriorated.  As per medical reports, Dhipan was suffering from liver cirrhosis and had kidney failure leading to death.

sdas Diphan started his career as an assistant to noted action director Shaji Kailas who dominated Malayalam cinema in 90’s and early 2000. Diphan started as a independent director with the political drama titled Leader (2003). Though the film didn’t succeed, his next, Puthiya Mugham (2009) starring Prithviraj was a super hit.  Subsequently he directed Hero, SIM, Gangs of Vadakkumnathan and The Dolphins. He has completed Sathya, with Jayaram in the lead, and the film is awaiting release.

Noted actor Jayaram broke down when he heard of Dhipan’s death. The late director’s last film Sathya a thriller which has just been completed is with the veteran hero of Malayalam cinema. Jayaram said: “About a month back I had completed even the dubbing for Sathya, which has shaped out to be a fast moving thriller. Dhipan was very kicked about it and told me that it is his best work. Sad to see that he will not be there when the film releases.”

Dhipan is the son of award winning veteran Malayalam film dubbing artist Anandavalli. She has dubbed for over 200 heroines in Malayalam cinema in the last 50 years. Dhipan leaves behind his wife Deepa and two children.  He will be cremated in his native Thiruvananthapuram tomorrow.
