While not much is known about Mani Ratnam’s next project after Kaatru Veliyidai, we know for sure that the untitled Tamil film will reunite the filmmaker with cinematographer Santhosh Sivan for the sixth time.
“Yes, Santhosh Sivan is on board Mani Ratnam sir’s next film. It’s going to be a bilingual but he is yet to finalise his lead actors. The project will roll from September,” a source close to Ratnam said.
Sivan and Ratnam have previously worked together in films such as Thalapathi, Dil Se, Iruvar and Roja. The two had worked together last on Raavan.
To be bankrolled by Ratnam’s Madras Talkies, the film will have music by A.R. Rahman.
Meanwhile, Hindustan Times has also reported that the project won’t be a romantic film because Mani Ratnam is keen on exploring a different genre this time. The pre-production work is already underway and Ratnam is busy zeroing on the cast. The source also clarified that actor Ram Charan is not part of the project.
“Although Ram Charan and Ratnam had met and discussed the idea of collaborating, the plan didn’t materialise. He is not part of this project,” the source added.
