Zee Cine Awards 2017 was a night filled with performances, moments and words of admiration that fraternity members had for each other.

In one such instance, Kareena Kapoor Khan, who ruled the box office for years, presented the Best Actor in a Leading Role (Female) award to her Udta Punjab co-star Alia Bhatt. Given that the other most formidable contender was Kareena’s friend Sonam Kapoor for Ram Madhvani’s Neerja, it was all the more special to see Kareena present the coveted award to Bhatt, who she introduced as ’the most talented.'

With two powerhouse actors and reigning box office queens sharing the dais, host Manish Paul made the most of the moment when he asked Bhatt to deliver Kareena’s popular dialogue from Imtiaz Ali’s Jab We Met - “Main apni favourite hoon.”

While accepting the award, Bhatt thanked her mentor and filmmaker Karan Johar for introducing her in his 2013 directorial Student of the Year. Having done over half a dozen Dharma films in her three year long career, she said in a typical filmy tone, “Dharma hi mera karma hai!”

Another Dharma film from last year, starring Bhatt, made a lot of waves at the awards night - Shakun Batra’s Kapoor and Sons. Rishi Kapoor won not only one but two awards for his portrayal of a nonagenarian. After he was announced as the Best Actor in a Comic Role, Manish Paul was ecstatic as he got the golden chance to escort his crush, Rishi’s wife Neetu Kapoor, to the stage since Rishi was out of town.

Manish indulged in some good ol’ flirting as Neetu accepted the award on Rishi’s behalf. Minutes later, Rishi was announced as the Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Male). Manish seemed happier than what Rishi would have been as he got yet another chance to interact with Neetu. While escorting her down for the second time, Manish even joked that he was looking forward to Rishi’s abusive tweets directed towards him later in the night.

Shabana Azmi was also not present to receive her Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Female) award for Neerja. Her husband, lyricist Javed Akhtar received it on her behalf and wittily dubbed her as a ’trophy wife’ since she kept bringing a trophy home every week.

Yet another yesteryear actor got generous yet befitting compliments, from none other than Salman Khan. Sridevi unveiled the first look of her upcoming film Mom before which she was introduced by Salman who termed her as far superior than all the three Khans. While all Khans would have done around 250-270 films combined, Sridevi is gearing up for her 300th film in a career that has spanned over five decades since she started off as a child artiste.

Another yesteryear actor who will be seen as a mother in an upcoming movie titled Maatr, Raveena Tandon, garnered her fair share of eyeballs. She took to the stage for a sizzling dance performance, entering on the lines, ‘matak matak jaise Raveena Tandon’ from the song ‘Kar Gayi Chul’. She reunited with her longtime collaborator, the ever so spontaneous Govinda, for an energetic act on their most popular numbers, ranging from ‘Kisi disco mein jaaye’ to ‘Akhiyon se goli maare’.
