Malayalam actor Manju Warrier has been attacked by right wing trolls ever since filmmaker Kamaluddin Muhammed confirmed her playing the role of poetess Kamala Das in the Malayalm biopic titled Aami.

Muhammed was on the receiving end of a similar backlash when he protested against the detainment of a few audience members for not rising during the National Anthem recital at the International Film Festival of Kerala. It was even speculated that Vidya Balan, who was initially signed to play Das, walked out of the film after pressure from the right wing.

Now, Warrier is facing the issue but she has clarified that she will not walk out of the film in the eleventh hour. Some of her fans have suggested her against doing the role as it will hamper her onscreen image to play the controversial poetess, who had converted to Islam in the latter half of her life.

However, Warrier has claimed that she will not succumb to cyber bullying. The Indian Express reports that she clarified that she is working in this film purely for creative satisfaction and does not endorse the personal political views of the director. She also expressed her regards for Kamal, dubbing him as her guru. She added that she is fortunate to work with the National Award-winning filmmaker after a long span of 20 years.

She has previously worked with Kamal in two films — Ee Puzhayum Kadannu and Krishnagudiyil Oru Pranayakalathu — which she considers one of her best works till date.

Initially, Balan was signed for the film but she quit the film, citing ‘divergent approaches to the process’ as the reason. However, it was reported earlier today that the producers of Aami were planning to sue Balan , in spite of Kamal’s disagreement, for maligning the goodwill of the production house in the market.
