Filmmaker Karan Johar recently convinced Telugu superstars Prabhas and Rana Daggubati to fly down to Mumbai to promote their upcoming film, SS Rajamouli’s war epic Baahubali 2: The Conclusion. Johar, who has purchased the rights of the Hindi version of the film, managed to make a reserved person like Prabhas talk about the film passionately.
Now, India Today reports that Johar has convinced Prabhas to make his Hindi film debut, that too under his film banner Dharma Productions. This comes after Prabhas gained pan-Indian popularity through Rajamouli’s 2015 film Baahubali: The Beginning, the prequel of their upcoming film which Johar marketed as well.
Prabhas’ popularity is suggested by the fact that Baahubali: The Beginning was the first dubbed film to cross the Rs 100 crore mark in the Hindi film industry. Johar has already collaborated with Daggubati in films like Ayan Mukerji’s 2013 romantic comedy Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani and the recently released Sankalp Reddy’s underwater war drama The Ghazi Attack.
DNA reports that Johar now wants to project Prabhas as an action romance star in Hindi cinema.
However, Prabhas has claimed that he will take a break from high-octane action films for a few years as shooting a physically exhausting film like Baahubali for the last five years has taken a toll on his health.
Thus, there is no official word of confirmation about his Hindi debut from Prabhas, Johar or Rajamouli yet.
Baahubali: The Conclusion also stars Tamannaah Bhatia, Sathyaraj and Anushka Shetty. It is produced by Shobhu Yarlagadda and Prasad Devineni’s Arka Media Works. It will release simultaneously in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam and is slated to release on 28 April.
