It seems that Nagesh Kukunoor has decided to continue with his tradition of making socially relevant films. After taking up the cause of Hyderabadi child prostitutes in the film Laxmi, Kukunoor has trained his lens on the issue of eye donation for his forthcoming Marathi film project titled Dhanak.
The film’s box office prospects have been given a boost with Shah Rukh Khan agreeing to act in a cameo role for the film in order to spread awareness about eye donation. Khan has decided to use his star power to attract viewers towards Dhanak, as he believes that the film represents a worthy cause. The actor has shot for the film for two days in Rajasthan and will reportedly play himself in the cameo.
The plot of the film revolves around a deeply caring relationship between two siblings. It is about a young women who decides to help in restoring her blind younger brother’s eyesight before he turns nine.
Dhanak is the Rajasthani word for rainbow and the film will be released as ‘Rainbow’ in foreign markets. It is reportedly based on the Iranian film Besak.
