CSA suspends women players for alcohol abuse

Cricket South Africa has suspended four women players from their national academy, three of who have played at international level, and ordered them to undergo counselling after being found guilty of alcohol abuse.

Chloe Tyron, Moseline Daniels, Shabnim Ismail and Trisha Chetty faced charges of breaching their CSA contractual obligations as well as that of the High Performance Centre in Pretoria in an incident relating to abuse of alcohol that took place on May 31 while attending the CSA national academy.

CSA commissioner, Professor Rian Cloete, found them guilty of a breach of clause 1.5.2 of the Code of Conduct in that their conduct "was unbecoming or detrimental which brought them, the board and the game of cricket into disrepute."

Daniels, 24, has played four ODIs and 11 T20s; Ismail, 25, has appeared in one Test alongside 46 ODIs and 36 T20s and Chetty, 26, has played one Test, 60 ODIs - making her South Africa's third most capped player in the format - and 44 T20s.

All three were part of this year's World T20 in Bangladesh were South Africa reached the semi-finals for the first time.

The players have all been given written warnings, suspended for the duration of 2014 academy period and will need to undertake their alcohol counselling course with six months.
