Boshier to lead New Zealand U-19s in World Cup

Finn Allen, Dale Phillips, Rachin Ravindra, and Felix Murray, who were part of the 2016 Under-19 World Cup squad, have been picked for the 2018 edition too

Allrounder Kaylum Boshier has been named captain of New Zealand's Under-19s team for the 2018 World Cup that begins in the country from January 13. Four players from New Zealand's 2016 U-19 World Cup squad - Finn Allen, Dale Phillips, Rachin Ravindra, and Felix Murray - have been picked for their second U-19 World Cup.
Boshier was picked to lead the side after impressing selectors with his stint as captain of the Central Districts during the National U-19 Tournament, recently. Allen and Ravindra, meanwhile, had been New Zealand's highest run-getters and wicket-takers respectively in the 2016 edition held in Bangladesh, where the side finished 12th.
In the 2018 edition, New Zealand are in Group A, alongside Kenya and former U-19 World Cup winners South Africa and defending champions West Indies. The hosts will begin their campaign on January 13 against West Indies in Tauranga.
"We're confident with the side we have selected for the tournament," head coach Paul Wiseman said. "It will be a great experience for the players involved, but for those not selected there will be other opportunities going forward. Selection or non-selection will not define these youngster's cricketing careers."
The side will have a training camp in Tauranga from December 17 before unofficial warm-up matches against Zimbabwe Under-19s and Pakistan Under-19s. Their official warm-up matches in the lead-up to the tournament, will be played on January 8 and 10 against Zimbabwe and Papua New Guinea Under-19s.
Squad: Kaylum Boshier (capt), Finn Allen, Jakob Bhula, Max Chu, Katene Clarke, Matthew Fisher, Luke Georgeson, Ben Lockrose, Callum McLachlan, Felix Murray, Sandeep Patel, Dale Phillips, Rachin Ravindra, Connor Sullivan, Todd Watson.
