The death toll in the explosion, that took place at a petrochemical company in eastern China's Shandong Province on Monday, has risen to eight.

Citing emergency rescue headquarters, Xinhua news agency reported that the fire in Linyi City has been doused off with secondary disasters unlikely.

A liquefied gas tanker had exploded causing the fire in the loading area of Linyi Jinyu Petrochemical Company.

The nine persons, who were injured in the incident, have reported not to be critical.

Meanwhile, the owner of the company has also been detained by the police.

An investigation is also underway to determine the cause of explosion.
