A Sharjah-bound freighter aircraft of Lufthansa Cargo returned to the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport here after being airborne for a little over 10 minutes after smoke was detected in cockpit.

The aircraft landed safely and the cockpit crew were safe, Lufthansa Cargo said in a statement.

The incident took place yesterday morning.

Lufthansa Cargo confirmed that the flight, routed from Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (HYD) to Sharjah International Airport (SHJ), returned here after 12 minutes of its take-off, the statement said.

The crew decided to return due to smoke in cockpit, it said.
