A US politician landed in trouble after he compared former US President Abraham Lincoln to German dictator Adolf Hitler. Although the post has since been deleted, the North Carolina legislator has faced flak for his posts.
North Carolina State Representative Larry Pittman of Concord said, "If Hitler had won, should the world just get over it? Lincoln was the same sort [of] tyrant, and personally responsible for the deaths of over 800,000 Americans in a war that was unnecessary and unconstitutional." (sic).
The comment was part of a post in which Pittman defended his bill to order the state to ignore the historic Supreme Court decision legalizing same-sex marriage nationwide in 2015.
The post came after a commentator reminded Pittman that the Supreme Court ruling settled the law on gay marriage and that the lawmaker should “get over it.”
Naturally, Twitter came down heavily on Pittman. Here are some of the reactions

Earlier this week, White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer had landed in trouble for saying Hitler never used chemical weapons. He later apologised for it.
