With Lalu Prasad Yadav no more a coalition partner in Bihar, Nitish Kumar-led government has decided to back his rival Aditya Verma’s Cricket Association of Bihar (CAB) ahead of Supreme Court hearing slated for Tuesday.

Even the Union Law minister Ravi Shankar Prasad has lent support to CAB and demanded Bihar’s team return to the domestic circuit from the ongoing season.

The support has come at a time when few acting BCCI officials tried hard to lend more financial support to Yadav’s Bihar Cricket Association. The officials tried extended assistance despite knowing that their predecessors (read Anurag Thakur and Ajay Shirke) have submitted in writing before the Apex court that an amount of Rs 50 lakh given to BCA earlier has not been accounted for till date.

DNA has reliably learnt that a proposal made by a senior BCCI official during the last finance committee meeting on September 14 to sanction Rs 2 crore to BCA was thwarted by treasurer Anirudh Chaudhry.

CAB secretary Verma has been assured by Bihar CM during their meeting two days back that state government will take up the issue with sports ministry and other appropriate levels to ensure that interest of Bihar’s cricketers are protected.

CAB on Monday requested the law minister to raise the issue with BCCI authorities to follow the SC orders of July 2016 where Bihar along with Puducherry and Northeast states were included as full members, thus making them eligible to participate in the Ranji Trophy from the forthcoming season.

“The players are not exposed to better conditions for improvement of the game. The present office-bearers of the BCCI are leaving no stones unturned to kill the talent of Bihar and likewise states,” alleged CAB secretary Verma.

Verma also pointed fingers towards the SC-appointed Committee of Administrators (COA) for letting BCCI’s general manager (Operations) MV Sridhar to continue in the present position despite a charge-sheet filed against him in the Hyderabad Cricket Association’s case. “The one who is not even eligible to be an office-bearer, as per Justice Lodha committee recommendation and mandate of the SC, has been given powers to make fixtures for the domestic cricket. And this is because of his proximity to a powerful BCCI group who has to keep their vote bank secured by keeping new states out,” added Verma.
