Syed Anwar Shazuli of ICF, Chennai, emerged champion in the St Peter's School 1st All-India Open FIDE-rated Chess tournament in Kodaikanal today.

Shazuli finished equal on seven points from eight rounds with Ram S Krishnan (BSNL) and Kodaikanal's M V Lakshmi Narayanan, but won the title on the basis of a superior tie-break score.

Half a point behind the top three at 6.5 points were seven players, including top-seed N Lokesh and International Master R Balasubramaniam, said a press release here.

The winner took home prize money of Rs 35,000 and a trophy.

Final placings: 1-3. Syed Anwar Shazuli, M V Lakshmi Narayanan, Ram S Krishnan 7 points, 4-10. N Lokesh, S K Kanishk, R Balasubramaniam, R Anup Shankar, Y Saranya, K K Gowtham, B Vignesh 6.5 points.
