It's confirmed. Former India captain Rahul Dravid will not be part of Team India as batting consultant during any overseas tour after the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators (COA) had a meeting with Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) here on Saturday.

It was decided that India 'A' coach Dravid's services could be used during the senior team's camp at Bengaluru's National Cricket Academy.

As reported by DNA earlier, the case of bowling consultant Zaheer Khan has also been put on hold because of his prior commitment with Indian Premier League (IPL) and commentary.

However, COA chief Vinod Rai said they were trying to sort out Zaheer's issues but clarified that the former India speedster would not be available before India's tour of South Africa later this year.

"Earlier, there was no system in place. We are trying to set templates. Zaheer is very much in scheme of coaching various Indian teams but we can only have him after we have a contract in place. We can't just tell Zaheer, okay we give you a three-month or three-week contract and these are conditions. We have to also look into his IPL contract, media commitments," Rai said after the meeting.

Rai, meanwhile, also clarified that BCCI CEO Rahul Johri and acting secretary Amitabh Choudhary were not informed by Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) comprising Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman before naming Dravid and Zaheer as consultants.

"The remit of the CAC was to appoint chief coach. The CEO and acting secretary were present when the presentations were being made and they zeroed in on Ravi Shastri," said Rai. "However, subsequently they (CAC) recommended names of two consultants (Zaheer and Dravid) and both CEO and acting secretary were not privy."

13 shortlisted for manager post

Meanwhile, Milind P Pradhan (Baroda Cricket Association) and Arman Malik (managing committee member of Mumbai Cricket Association) are among the 13 names that were shortlisted out of the total 35 applicants on Saturday for the post of Team India's manager for the next one year.

The big surprise, however, was the rejection of India's most experienced manager, Anil Patel. Patel's name was vetoed by acting BCCI president CK Khanna on the pretext that he "failed to give a proper report of what happened between skipper Virat Kohli and coach Anil Kumble during home series prior to team's departure to Champions Trophy".

None of the big names from Indian cricket has applied for this job which fell vacant after COA shot down BCCI's decision to appoint Milind Kanmadikar from the Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association as the manager for the tour of the West Indies that followed the Champions Trophy.

COA reckoned that the manager's job has to be a permanent one rather than the BCCI's preferred appointment or on a tour-to-tour basis.

"The manager's job is not only to spend time in the changing room. His job is to ensure that a proper process is followed while picking a team or managing any sort of disagreement in the dressing room. The Board-appointed managers have failed to live up to the expectation," an insider said.
