A day after Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami claimed that his wife Hasin Jahan kept him in the dark about an earlier marriage and the subsequent separation, and the fact that she had originally introduced her children as her sister’s kids, Hasnin’s lawyer Zakir Hussain said the pacer should back his claims with evidence, The Times of India reported.

“Unfounded allegations will cut no ice. Where is the proof? All our claims have been backed with proof which has led police to drawn up criminal charges against him,” Zakir told the daily.

Earlier, Shami claimed that he found out about his wife Hasin Jahan's first marriage only after the duo got married themselves. Shami said that Jahan had told him that her two daughters from her first marriage were actually her sister's children.

"I was not aware that it was her second marriage with me and it was only after we got married that I was told about two of my (step) daughters," Shami told India News.

The premier Indian pacer said he's worried for his own daughter's future and has been trying hard to reach a compromise with his estranged wife.

"I have been trying hard for a compromise. I have been trying to call her to settle the matter but she has accused me of threatening her. I am worried about the future of my daughter," he said.

On Wednesday, it was reported that the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) has written to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to investigate the charges levelled against Shami by his wife.

The CoA, led by Vinod Rai, has given a seven-day deadline to BCCI's Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) head Neeraj Kumar to submit the report on the issue. This direction comes after cricketer's wife levelled various allegations, including of match-fixing, against the fast bowler. Though Jahan retracted fixing allegation, the CoA has taken note of it and asked the ACU to investigate the matter.
