CBI has registered a preliminary enquiry against two doctors Pawandeep Singh and RS Negi who didn't have requisite qualification and experience and were still sent to Rio Olympics in Brazil along with the Indian sports contingent. The information reveals nepotism and favouritism on the part of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA).

The duo came into the spotlight when wrestler Vinesh Phogat suffered a freak injury at the Rio Olympics 2016. While Pawandeep’s father, Tarlochan Singh, is a IOA vice-president, Negi is a distant cousin and close friend of IOA secretary general Rajeev Mehta.

According to a report in India Today at that time, Tarlochan had defended his son vehemently: "He (Pawandeep) isn't illiterate. He was official medical head of the SAF Games, a member of the Commonwealth Games Medical Commission and a reputed international polo player who has represented India on many occasions."
