Twitter has its own 'IPL Auction' on Monday, with hilarious memes and gifs
Updated : Sep 30, 2017, 01:37 PM IST
A total of 352 players were up for grabs in the auction out of an original pool of 799 (which was shortened after consultation with the eight franchises).
This year's auction attracted more interest as eight England cricketers- Ben Stokes, Chris Woakes, Jonny Bairstow, Eoin Morgan, Jason Roy, Alex Hales, Chris Jordan and Tymal Mills were among the 352 players who had placed themselves up for auction among the eight franchises that will take part in the seven-week-long tournament that begins from April 5.
Each player's selection or rejection resulted in a lot of noise on social media. Here are some of the reactions.

A number of experts, too, voiced their concern over the omission of certain players. South African leg-spinner Imran Tahir, who is sitting at the top of the rankings for bowlers in both ODIs and T20s, says he never thought he would be No.1 bowler. Tahir took 10 wickets in the ODI series against Sri Lanka which Proteas won 5-0 and completed the double. Despite his success in the limited format of the game, Tahir wasn't picked during the auction.
Imran Tahir going unsold is the 'shocker' of the day. Can't fathom how. #IPLAuction

I have rarely understood this stage of the #IPLAuction. Looking for bargain picks; players they are never going to play anyway.

England allrounder Ben Stokes became the most expensive overseas player ever bought at an IPL auction, going for Rs 14.5 crore (USD 2.16 million approx.) to Rising Pune Supergiants.
England fast bowler Tymal Mills also set a new record price for a specialist bowler: he was the second most expensive sale at Rs 12 crore (USD 1.8 million approx). All rounder Chris Woakes was the third England player to get a hefty payday; he was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders for INR 4.2 crore (USD 625,000 approx).
Three other England players bought - all at base price - were: batsman Eoin Morgan for INR 2 crore (USD 300,000 approx) to Kings XI Punjab, batsman Jason Roy for INR 1 crore (USD 150,000) to Gujarat Lions, and all rounder Chris Jordan for INR 50 lakh (USD 74,000) to Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Of course, a number of jokes were made about Munaf Patel getting selected for Gujarat Lions, and both Irfan Pathan and Ishant Sharma not getting selected by anyone.
