It’s a bad time for India’s grand old party. The political party at the centre of India’s freedom struggle is going through bad phase, particularly since 2014 when they won only 44 seats. Recently, PM Modi took his predecessor Dr Manmohan Singh to task for calling demonetization ‘organised plunder’ and claimed the former PM had ‘mastered the art of bathing with a raincoat’, referring to his ‘clean image’ despite a scam-tainted regime.

On Monday, a Congressman earned some ire from former cricket Virender Sehwag over his comments about the Blind T20 World Cup title. After India beat Pakistan to win the Blind T20 World Cup, Sehwag tweeted: “Congratulations to our #OtherMenInBlue on winning the T20 World Cup for the Blind. They have lit up smiles for a billion people."

However, it seemed like captain Ajay Reddy had taken exception to the statement and was quoted saying by Indian Express: “We wear the same blue jersey, represent the same tri-colour and play with equal pride and passion then why term us as ‘other’? It is appreciable that he congratulated us but then we are no others. We too are the men in blue.”

While Ajay Reddy put up a video clarifying his statement and claimed that he had been misquoted. He said that he was very happy that Virender Sehwag had tweeted about him, and that he had been misquoted and slammed the press.

Meanwhile, Gaurav Pandhi who handles Digital Communication for the Indian National Congress wrote on Twitter: “Reddy has a point, @virendersehwag! The team led by Kohli won't be called 'other', right?”

However, Sehwag wasn’t particularly happy with the statement and treated his accusation with the same disdain he had for Saqlain Mustaq in Multan as he hit Pandhi’s statement out of the park pointing out that that the hash tag #TheOtherMeninBlue was used in the official campaign. He wrote: “. @GauravPandhi Better do some research before commenting. But research &media/you don't go hand in hand. It is their official campaign theme.”

Gotta say, Sehwag might have retired but he has still got it when it comes to hitting bouncers out of the park.
