Manchester United might be rooted to the sixth spot in the Premier League table but that doesn’t mean they have any trouble getting sponsors. Among their gazillion tie-ups is one with 20th Century Fox which has coughed up another brilliant mash-up starring Wayne Rooney.

While this isn’t the only tie-up and in earlier versions we’ve seen Manchester United stars double up as assassins (Assassin’s Creed), fighting alien invaders (Independence Day: Resurgence) and our personal favourite, when Deadpool kissed Wayne Rooney.

While the aforementioned tie-ups often failed to hit the mark, Wayne Rooney as 'Old Man Logan' is absolutely spot on. In many ways, Rooney and Wolverine are similar. Both of them are grey-ish, tortured individuals who have been there and done that and been part of the story since the beginning of time. While Rooney has been a staple in the Manchester United sides since signing from Everton in 2004, Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine has been part of every X-Men movie including the original and prequel trilogy and stand-alone movies, meaning this is his ninth appearance as Wolverine!

And of course, both are aggressive men with ferocious tempers and a problem with authority. Another important similarity between the two seems to be the fact that despite their antagonistic nature, they are always willing to roll up their sleeves and take one for the team, no matter the price.

How did the fans react?

Fans, it seems, have mixed feelings about the mash-up. One of them wrote on Facebook: “I’m done with the Internet for the rest of the year. This is the best video I have seen. Now it makes me more excited to see this movie.”

Another one felt United should ‘stick to football’ as she wrote: "I know why we're promoting this film, because of a sponsorship deal, but honestly, what have we become! Stick to the football!". Of course, she forgets that United’s sponsorship deals give them the money to spend on transfers, something that wouldn’t have been feasible without the club’s global appeal.

And finally, another one got nostalgic about the Rooney of old as he noted: "He was amazing in his young years. He had pace, fitness, and desire. He complemented Ronaldo brilliantly. Somehow in last few years, he lost his focus and fitness, though still has the passion. I wish he had the similar focus as Ibra and Ronaldo who have maintained an incredible level of fitness to succeed at this level. Respect for Rooney for entertaining United fans for more than a decade."

What is Logan about?

The movie is based on cult classic 'Old Man Logan' comic arc, a weary Logan cares for an ailing Professor X as mutants around the world are being wiped out. However, he is forced out of hiding to protect young mutant Laura who possesses similar skills. Early reviews are hailing the upcoming movie, with Mark Hughes, writing for Forbes, said it could be the first superhero movie to get a best picture nomination at the Academy Awards.

Meanwhile, writing for The Guardian, Peter Bradshaw called it a ‘poignant study of ageing and infirmity, as the arthritic mutant holes up in Mexico with a declining Professor Xavier’. At the time of writing, it’s rated 9.7 IGN.com, 97% rating on Rotten Tomatoes (with an average rating of  8.2/10) and has a four out of five rating on Screen Rant. Logan is set to release in India on March 3, 2017.
