Double Olympic medallist Sushil Kumar on Monday has conceded that it would be "tough" for him to qualify for the 2016 Rio Olympics if Narsingh Yadav wins the lone quota place in the 74kg category at the World Championships in Las Vegas from September 7-12.

Ace wrestler Kumar made himself unavailable for the trials last month due to shoulder injury he sustained during a practice session and Yadav was selected by the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) to represent the country in the 74kg event. Yadav has an easier task because he can pick the quota place by finishing in the first six.

According to the qualification rules, "The NOCs/ NFs will not be able to send other wrestlers in the weight categories in which they already have a qualified quota place."

Kumar told dna on Monday: "I know it would be tough for me, but we should first await Narsingh to qualify. As a sportsman, my good wishes are with him."

However, there are still options open for Kumar, in case he is faced with such a difficult situation. "A quota place is always for a country and not for any individual wrestler," a WFI official said, thus, hinting that "in case of any injury to wrestler before the Games, he can be replaced by another one."

Another possibility is that Kumar, who has moved up to the 74kg category, reduces his weight and comes back to his old weight category of 66 kg in which he won two Olympic medals.

"I am concentrating on my first qualifier in March next year. I have recovered from my shoulder injury and have resumed training. Let all these calculations be left to the Federation. I want Narsingh to do well," Kumar said.
