Four-time World Champion Sebastian Vettel has officially joined Italian giant Ferrari, to partner Kimi Raikkonen, by signing a three-year contract, as former driver Fernando Alonso has confirmed his exit from the team.

Multiple champion Vettel said that it is an 'incredible honour' to get the chance to drive a Ferrari. According to Ferrari chief Marco Mattiacci, Vettel possesses unique combination of youthfulness and experience, the BBC reported.

Aiming to be front runners next season, Mattiacci further added that Vettel contribution would prove precious, as with teammate Kimi they would counter upcoming challenges.

On the other hand, two time world champion Alonso said that it would be like 'leaving family'. He believes that the past five years with Ferrari has produced some of the best moments of his career.

Alonso, who was narrowly edged past by Vettel for the world title in 2010 and 2012, is expected to join McLaren next season.
