Karanataka put up a collective batting display to take a massive 324-run lead against Delhi, who face an arduous task to save the match with two days to go in their Ranji Trophy Group B in in Kolkata.

Overnight 131 for three in reply to Delhi's minuscule 90, Karnataka lost night watchman Abhimanyu Mithun in Ishant Sharma's third delivery of the day but from thereon they batted through the day, folding for 414 in 141.3 overs.

The second day saw three half-centuries by three Karnataka batsmen -- stand in skipper Karun Nair (53), Mir Kaunan Abbas (52) and CM Gautam 63 not out adding to Mayank Agarwal and R Samarth's fifties on Thursday as they stretched the lead past 300.

Left-arm spinner Varun Sood (4/80) was the leading wicket-taker for Delhi, followed by Vikas Tokas' 3-81 on a slow-looking two paced wicket at the Eden Gardens. Ishant (1/63) looked much better on Friday but could not add to his only wicket of Mithun, having bowled in three short spells of four, four and three overs.

Resuming on three, stand-in skipper Nair made his intention clear early in the day hitting Pawan Suyal for a six over third man. He got to his fifty in 81 balls, striking left-arm spinner Manan Sharma over long off but only to be caught by left-arm spinner Sood off his own bowling in the next over.

Nair's 89-run partnership with Abbas was crucial as it helped Karnataka see through the tricky morning session and take the team past 200. Continuing his impressive form, Abbas struck a second successive half century in his maiden first class season as he ensured that there was no further slip-up in another handy 33 partnership with Stuart Binny (32).

Abbas was dismissed lbw by Sood in the last ball before lunch. With Karnataka 258-6, Gautam came into bat and showed fine composure to bat through the day. "That was precisely our strategy. We wanted to bat full," the No. 8 Karnataka batsman Gautam said after his 77-run partnership with Shreyas Gopal (46).

With Karnataka batsmen ensuring that they bat through the day, it was a hard toil for Gautam Gambhir's bowlers. Ishant's spells on Friday read: 4-1-10-1, 4-0-9-0, 3-1-10-0 that aptly illustrated the frustrating day for the lanky India frontline pacer.

With a first innings deficit of 324 runs, Delhi who have eight points from two matches are now in danger of facing a humiliating innings defeat with two more days to go.

Brief Scores: Delhi 1st innings: 90; Karnataka 1st innings 414 in 141.3 overs (C M Gautam 63 not out, Mir Kaunan Abbas 52, Karun Nair 53; Varun Sood 4/80).

J&K tail steers team to competitive score

The tail of Jammu and Kashmir helped the team post a competitive first innings score of 334 on the second day of the four-day Ranji Trophy Group C match against Andhra in Mumbai.

In reply, Andhra started off well with a brisk 41-run first wicket stand before they lost the wickets of openers K S Bharat for 31 and D B Prashanth Kumar for 24 to end the day at 72 for two, 262 runs behind their rivals' first innings total at the Brabourne Stadium.

Bharat hit six fours before losing his wicket to Umar Nazir, while Kumar batted a bit more patiently in making 24 only to depart at the fag end of the day, dismissed by Parvez Rasool. The unconquered Andhra batsmen at stumps were captain G Hanuma Vihari (16) and night watchman Bhatt (0).

Earlier, J&K resumed at the overnight 205 for six and with useful contributions from the lower order took the total past the 300 mark. Number 7 batsman Bandeep Singh, who was not out 14 on Thursday, made 63 which was the second highest of the innings, in a stubborn stay lasting 201 balls before he was the ninth batsman out at 323.

Wicketkeeper Punit Bisht (20), Ram Dayal (42 in 115 balls) and Samiullah Beigh (20 not out) resisted the Andhra bowlers to help the side cross the 300 mark. In fact, the last four wickets of J&K added 148 runs after the fall of top-scorer and opener Shubham Khajuria for 90 at 186.

For Andhra, medium pacer Siva Kumar and left arm spinner Bhargav Bhatt claimed four wickets each, while opening bowler P Vijay Kumar bagged two.

Brief scores: J&K 1st innings: 334 (S Khajuria 90, P Rasool 45, Bandeep Singh 63, Ram Dayal 42; Siva Kumar 4/49, B Bhatt 4/122); Andhra 1st innings: 72/2 (K S Bharat 31).

Rajasthan crumble before Nadeem's left-arm spin

Left-arm spinner Shahbaz Nadeem spun a web around Rajasthan batsmen to hand Jharkhand a narrow two-run first innings lead in a Group B Ranji Trophy cricket match, in Vadodara.

Nadeem returned with impressive figures of seven for 74 to help Jharkhand snatch the two-run lead at the Reliance Stadium. In Reply to Jharkhand's 209, Nadeem single-handedly demolished Rajasthan's batting department to bundle them out for 207 in 83.2 overs.

Rajasthan's batting line-up crumbled like a pack of cards in front of Nadeem after Manender Singh (50) and Vineet Saxena (50) put together 100 runs for the first. Nadeem scythed through the middle-order with his left-arm spin as Rajasthan lost their last seven wickets for 61.

At stumps, Jharkhand were 73 for two in 18 overs with Pratyush Singh (33) and Sunny Gupta unbeaten at the crease. They lost opener Anand Singh early, but Virat Singh's 35 and Pratyush 33 not out helped extend the lead to 75, with eight wickets in hand when stumps were drawn.

Brief Scores: Jharkhand: 209 & 73 for two in 18 overs (Virat Singh 35, Pratyush Singh 33 not out; Aniket Choudhary 1/13); Rajasthan: 207 all out in 83.2 overs (Manender Singh 50, Vineet Saxena 50; Shahbaz Nadeem 7/74).

Jaydev & Co make mockery of Maharashtra attack

Jaydev Shah became the first Saurashtra captain to score a double century to power Saurashtra to a commanding 657 for eight declared in their first innings against Maharashtra in a Group B Ranji Trophy cricket match, in Vizianagaram.

Jaydev (217), who has scores of 193, 64 and 0 so far this season, put on 174 for the sixth wicket with Chirag Jani (100 not out), before Saurashtra declared their first essay. Chesteshwar Pujara also made a patient 93 off 246 deliveries.

It was struggle once again for the Maharashtra bowlers, who nearly conceded a lead despite scoring 600-plus against Delhi last week. Mohsin Sayyed (4/90) picked up four wickets for them.

In reply, Maharashtra were 18 for no loss in six overs. Openers Swapnil Gugale (10 batting) and Murtaza Trunkwala (7) were holding fort for Maharashtra at stumps on the second day of the four-day match.

Brief Scores: Saurashtra: 657 for eight decl in 170.5 overs (Jaydev Shah 217, Sheldon Jackson 105, Chirag Jani 100 not out, Cheteshwar Pujara 93; Mohsin Sayyed 4/90); Maharashtra: 18 for no loss in six overs (Swapnil Gugale 10 not out, Murtuza Trunkwala 7 not out).
