India's 500th Test match is finally over with the hosts trumping the Kiwis by 197 runs on the final day to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. However, the excitement doesn't end there as the time has arrived to disclose the result of an online poll (Who has been India's best Test captain?) which we had conducted on the eve of the historic match.

During the course of 84 years, 32 cricketers have captained the nation, so to make matters easy for the fans, we decided to short list nine skippers and opened up a poll.

More than 900 votes were registered and at the end of the day it was 'Prince of Kolkata', Sourav Ganguly who ran away with the honours by garnering 72.66% (675) of the total votes. His nearest competitor was the most successful Indian captain, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, against whose name 171 votes (18.41%) were registered. Mohammad Azharuddin was the distant third with a total of 50 votes (5.38%).

Whoever might be the winner, there's no denying the fact that all these 32 captains and each and every cricketer who played under them, have a huge role in lifting Indian cricket to the position that they are today. These kind of fun and games will go on but what matters most is that these's gentlemen aptly managed to sum up the classic dialogue of 'M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story' - 'We are all servants and we are all doing national duty'.
