A day after dna reported of a young club cricketer collapsing due to heart attack at a Dr HD Kanga League game, the Mumbai Cricket Association promised to take up the issue in the next managing committee meeting and provide all medical facilities required for the players.

On Sunday morning, Dahisar Sports Club's 34-year-old wicket-keeper batsman Rahul Sawant suffered a heart attack while playing against BRD Cricket Club at Azad Maidan before his teammates drove him to Bombay Hospital to save his life.

In the latest update, according to his teammate, the cricketer, who is working in a shipping firm, will be going through angioplasty to remove a couple of blockades in his heart.

MCA joint secretary Unmesh Khanvilkar said that they will come out with a solution for something like this. "This is a rare case. Normally, injuries like cuts, bruises or sprains happen while playing cricket. Hence we have appointed physios and provided first aids at various points of the grounds. But this is something which is serious and we will have to look into it," said Khanvilkar.

The secretary said the managing committee will discuss this issue in the next managing committee. "We have to come out with a solution to make facilities that could deal with something like this. Other than the physios who are already there, we will try to arrange doctors who can deal with these issues. Also, we will try to arrange ambulances at each centre including gymkhanas so they can be used during emergencies," added Khanvilkar.

Meanwhile, a close friend of Sawant said that the cricketer would be fine. "He will go through an angioplasty and we hope that he will be fine soon," h said.
