Australia T20 skipper Aaron Finch has been ruled out of remainder of the Indian Premier League due to a hamstring injury that he suffered while batting for Mumbai Indians last week.

Finch, who was assisted from the field after he was yelling in pain during Mumbai's match against Rajasthan in Ahmedabad, successfully underwent surgery on his left hamstring and is expected to be out for 12 weeks.

Cricket Australia Physiotherapist Alex Kountouris said: "After returning to Australia injured from the IPL, Aaron had scans that confirmed a high grade hamstring injury. As such, Aaron was assessed by a surgeon who felt that he would have a better outcome with surgery.

"Aaron subsequently had surgery yesterday that has gone well. Aaron will now commence his rehabilitation and we expect that rehabilitation to take up to 12 weeks."

The 28-year-old had tweeted on Tuesday night, explaining that he was hospitalised for one night but appearing optimistic that the surgery went well.

Finch has played only three matches this season for Mumbai. He scored five, eight and 10 not out before hurting his hamstring while taking a single during a match at the Sardar Patel Stadium in Ahmedabad.
