India's No. 3 shuttler HS Prannoy entered the quarterfinals of the India Open Super Series badminton tournament with a 18-21 21-14 21-14 win over top seed Denmark's Jan O Jorgensen here on Thursday.

The Kerala National Games gold medallist in the team event, who has been training with the core-group of national shuttlers, has improved considerably over the past few years, and his aggressive game has gotten even more lethal.

He put those aggressive strokes, eye-catching backhand smashes and delectable drop shots to perfection against Jorgensen to achieve his career's biggest win.

It has to be the biggest upset of the India Open as Jorgensen was clear favourite to reach the tournament final on Sunday against an expected rival, Lin Dan from China. But Jorgensen struggled to find answers to his first-time opponent's fast-paced game, well-disguised slices and punishing rallies.

Though world champion Dan and India's Saina Nehwal were playing on adjacent courts, the crowd was totally focused on the Prannoy-Jorgensen battle.

Dan sailed into the quarters with a 21-13 21-16 win over Hu Yun of Hong Kong, while women's top seed Saina got the better of reigning national champion Ruthvika Shivani 21-16 21-17. Men's second seed and World No.4

Kidambi Srikanth defeated Japanese World No.15 Kento Momota 21-12 15-21 21-15.

However, Glasgow CWG gold medallist Parupalli Kashyap's campaign was halted by Xue Song of China, who won 21-17, 21-11.
